Error displaying photos + no new media detection

I’ve upgraded my Synology NAS from DSM 6 to DSM 7.
Plex sort of reverted to a previous version of data, with old, deleted collections reappearing, new collections disappearing, personal metadata overwritten.

Now, every time I add a new movie or TV Series, Plex doesn’t process it, and it doesn’t appear. I had to manually analyze all existing movies and tv series to get detect credits and skip info. but I can’t add new stuff.

Also, every time I try to open a Photo album, I get this:

Screenshot 6

And i keep getting that error whatever other link or menu I click, until I refresh the browser.
Photos are all there, if I refresh the page, error goes away and photos appear, but I can’t use it this way.

Can you help me to fix everything?

Thanks.

Never mind. I uninstalled everything and reinstalled again. :\

Mind again.

I reinstalled everything again and the problem is still there.

Usually when I open folders nested in other folders, like:

Family > Grandparents > Grandma > 1925-1935

Any way to solve this bug?

Might this apply ?

as well as this (Username change in DSM 7)

Thanks for your answer @ChuckPa
I don’t think it’s a problem of directory nesting or permissions, because, when I refresh the page after that error message, the album is displayed correctly. It wouldn’t do that if Plex could not find or access the photos inside.
It also seems a random happening, because it doesn’t always happen on the same folders (sometimes it loads them correctly, sometimes it shows the error), but it seems to me it’s more frequent with nested folders, like if it couldn’t load them in time and gets a sort of timeout (even if it’s happening immediately). Mind that I don’t have an insane amount of nested folders, the longer one is just 4. With 2 folders the issue seems much less frequent.

I’m 100% sure I’ve never seen this error while using the DSM6 version of the server. And I immediately got it after the upgrade to 7 and (hoping to solve the issue with a fresher database) after uninstalling everything and reinstalling from scratch.

Important: I forgot to say that I get this error only on Mac (the browser is not important, as I get it with all I tried: Safari, Chrome, etc.) when using the plex.tv url.
No problems with the iOS app or the client on my LG TV or if I access the server via IP (I’ve done quick tests just now, opening folders like a crazy, but so far it was 100% reliable).

So the culprit seems to be the plex.tv connection. I’ve a green direct access and my Internet speed is 1000/300 Mbps, so I don’t think it’s a speed problem.

If you’re having connectivity issues from Plex.tv → Server, that will be in your logs.

I’d like to see them. (the ZIP file)

Sure. I hope I did it correctly:

1 - I activated “detailed logs in” settings > run the debug*

  • my language is set to italian. I’m translating the menus hoping to match the original ones.

2 - I went to photos and opened three nested albums (I have “library” as default photo showing methods). Everyone of these three albums gave me an error, but after each manual refresh, it showed the correct page.

3 - I downloaded and zipped the text file in setup > run the debug > you can see your log here.

4 - here’s the file:

Plex_debug_log.txt.zip (109.0 KB)

4a - The same, exact operation using the server local IP didn’t give any error.

4b - Many thanks.

@ChuckPa did you find anything strange in the logs?

@lock

Sorry, it’s been very busy for me today.

I need the server logs zip file
(Settings - Server - Troubleshooting - Download Logs) from Plex/web - lower left corner)

Sorry, I wasn’t sure I uploaded the right file:

Plex Media Server Logs_2024-06-25_23-21-51.zip (4.5 MB)

Before downloading it I opened three album subfolders, got the error and reloaded the page for every one.
As I said, accessing with IP or TV app, everything works perfectly.

Thanks.

P.S. I’m not in a hurry, at the moment I’m using it with IP, so take your time. I just want to understand and (maybe) solve this issue soon or later.

Would you be willing to conduct an experiment?

If so, this is what I propose.

  1. Stop Plex

  2. Using FileStation, rename AppDataAppData.save

  3. Start Plex

  4. Open an incognito browser window

  5. In that browser window, open the Syno by LAN IP address

  6. It will want to setup a new server – this is correct.

  7. As you set it up, BE CAREFUL of the “Friendly Name” (defaults to the hostname)
    – Give it a friendly name like “Test” or something else which won’t conflict with your established server(s)

  8. Now create a library section ( a small section )

  9. See if it finds the previously missing media.

Let me know the results.

I’m going to try it, but I had this problem with my previous “save” when I updated Synology to DSM7 and Plex server version (the DSM6 version of Plex worked perfectly) and also now that I started everything from scratch, so I’m pretty sure the issue will be still there.

Anyway, I need more information because I don’t want to risk to loose everything I have now in Plex (I spent more than a week to reconstruct all movies collections, personalized TV Series, and so).

You mean the AppData folder inside /PlexMediaServer shared folder, right? So, I guess, Plex will create a new one and, after the test, I can delete the new one and rename back my old one and have everything working again?

Sorry, maybe this is an obvious question, but I want to be sure everything will be back to “normal”.

@ChuckPa, are you still there?
