since my TV is ancient (LG FHD netCast) I wasn’t able to use plex since the last update, somehow it worked with a dull solution but the users (Kids) are no more, also I had to type my pin to log in on TV while it was removed from PMS!!!
downgraded PMS to version 1.19.3.2852 (found it saved on my HDD) and plex on netCast is working fine now.
strange act from the PLEX side, if you don’t want to support it I understand but at least PROVIDE USERS WITH THE OLDER VERSIONS OF PMS so we don’t want to change our TV sets because it is still working fine!
PS: Netflix is still working perfectly on netCast TVs.
Started to regret that I bought a lifetime plex pass.
Would you be able to provide the .exe in some way? That would be awesome!
I’ve already been tinkering with Emby as an alternative (gladly didn’t buy the Plex lifetimes pass yet), sadly Plex is just way better and more comfortable setting up the server, scanning libraries correctly, remote access, … sigh
EDIT:
Found a site with a history of PMS Installers:
Do we know the last version of PMS working with “older” TVs?
I’ts working again for me.
Big thank you, devs.
Downgrading PMS resulting in it functioning again sounds coincidental since PMS has no effect on home users, nor would it prevent the app from starting the way it did here.
1.20.3.3483-211702a9f and 1.20.4.3517-ab5e1197c both work fine (these are the latest public and Plex Pass releases respectively).
I can confirm that my LG 28TN515S is now working.
My daughter is now happy.
Thanks.
for me, the latest 3 versions resulted disappearance of the managed users and the error " Unable to load your plex home settings", even if I removed the pin for the admin user I requested the pin on TV with other issues, the admin, of course, has no restrictions so the kids will have access to all, this only applies to netCast only while android and Xbox one app were working perfectly.
this was my findings, hope it can help who needs.
That is expected. The Netcast app does not support TLS 1.2, so it is unable to connect to Plex.tv to authenticate your account. It also cannot gather the list of your managed users. Unfortunately, this cannot be fixed since your TV cannot connect to Plex.tv.
Just tried version 1.20.4.3517 (the latest) it works fine on netcast.
thank you for foxing it.
Great! Thank you, it is working fine.
Do you have any changes on your development roadmap which will affect the unsupported but still working non-4K/UHD TV sets in the near future?
Plex please keep working on this for all smart TV users.
On one hand there are statements saying that some older tv’s and players won’t be supported, while on the other hand there are employees attempting fixes for some users.
Confusing and mixed messages for many of your users guys!
Either fix this for all users or don’t fix it at all.
Very unfair to fix it for some users who have ancient TV’s, when many who have just purchased a brand new TV can still no longer use Plex the way they enjoyed.
Many Plex users loved Plex because they have always been able to access and share their server with just about any smart TV.
This convenient functionality which made Plex great has been taken away and is seemingly being replaced with many unwanted features!
Please understand that you are upsetting your customers and potentially losing Pass purchasers with the current direction.
