Even tho PMS is running when I try to add my own library files it asks me to install PMS

First post here. I have just paid for a Plex Pass in order to share my wife and I’s family movies and pictures to our kids and grandkids.

Whenever I try on the Plex web app or the Plex desktop app to add files to my local Library it just asks me to install the Plex Media Server and provides a link then opens my MS app store which of course says PMS is installed.

I can see in the system tray the PMS is running.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I can not find a Plex customer help contact link

Was there a Plex server installation on this PC before?
If yes, you need You need to reclaim your server, but don't dare to touch the Windows Registry

Is this regular Windows, or Windows Server Edition?
If it’s a server editon, see Plex install fix for Windows Server (Claim issue)

Many thanks Otto

This is my sons old computer and it was he that introduced me to Plex, so even tho he uninstalled everything, I am guessing there may still be remnants of PMS in the registry.
I am running Win 11

I followed your instructions and installed the new registry values, after first exiting PMS as advised from the system tray.

Then I followed the other link about claiming my server - As I was already logged on on the web app of PMS I tried logging of then on again - but to no avail.

I do wonder if this is actually ‘claim your server’ issue. As every time I try to add my own files in either the Plex web app or the desktop app, I get a button that says I need to install Plex Media Server, even tho it is clearly running in the background as indicated in the system tray.

hopefully you may have another idea?
