New install of PMS signed in and server features missing and can't add libraries

I’ve had libraries for years now and never encountered this when setting up a new computer. I click on the wrench to go add some libraries and none of the features are there. I can click on “Your Media” and a screen comes up and tells me to download and install the PMS, which is what I’m already using to get to that screen. How is this possible? Latest Windows version PMS downloaded and installed. I’m stumped on what’s wrong. Thanks for any help someone can provide me.

Are you accessing the server using the bundled web app from within the same network/subnet?
e.g. http://127.0.0.1:32400/web or http://localhost:32400/web if you’re on the same machine, or http://[PMS IP]:32400/web otherwise?

Was there a PMS installation on this machine before you created this new setup?

Thank you for your reply.

The PMS, I downloaded it from the Plex.tv website and installed it on a new Windows 11 computer. It did not go well from the start. So I uninstalled it. Then I created a new Plex account since the Plex website would fail if I tried to update my email address, and also fail if I tried to delete the account. But it failed in different ways even before creating the new Plex account.

So to answer your question, yes there had been a previous PMS installation on the computer be fore my re-installation. The only thing that ever has access to my PMS content are TVs (on the same local Wi-Fi SSID) with Roku’s Plex app.

I know I must be doing something wrong somewhere, but I just can’t seem to figure it out.

I did use the process steps on that link you provided to edit the registry and un-claim the server. Still no change in issue. Still no way to add libraries, etc.

Thanks so much for your kind help.

This is what the pervious installation produce when the Roku app would try to connect. I have never had these issues happen before when setting up a new computer, which I do once a year. This was before the uninstall, etc.

New Windows 11 computer fresh install of PMS and something is very wrong.
Can’t add libraries and the interface left column does not look correct and is missing a bunch.
I’ve never encountered anything like this before and I change computers once a year.

Help please. Thanks

Plus it tells me to “Get PMS” which is already installed. This so does not make any sense.

None of this seems to work, resulting in zero change. Is there any other way to get this working? Thanks

Let’s double-check things…

  1. Can you confirm the remnants of your original setup are gone (e.g. all the parameters mentioned to remove from the registry)? In case your original install was done with a different Windows user account on this machine, also remove things while signed in As that user!!
  2. To be thorough… also remove the server‘s data directory (that’s not strictly necessary, but with your multiple installations with different Plex accounts… let’s start with a clean slate) → https://support.plex.tv/articles/201198426-restart-plex-media-server-setup-from-scratch/
  3. Once 1+2 are complete… please explain which steps from the guide linked by Otto you do and where things start behaving differently. Make sure you do those things with the Plex web app, no local player exe

Why is this so complicated? This seems it should be a simple mouse click and done issue. I’m becoming overwhelmed with the complexity and aggravating time sucks this all has become. Do you think there is a better media player I should try instead? We use Plex for a lot of other viewing, but this is all a very bad sign. Thanks for your help.

It is usually very straightforward.
Things got messy when you switched accounts and did multiple reinstalls along the way.

This problem started when it was a fresh new computer and fresh install with the old account. The only reason it’s messy is bad software engineering. It should be mouse point and click and done. I created the new account after nothing else fixed things. This is not a user short coming, it is a software engineer short coming.
