Everything looks fine, but Plex can't access the internet & port checking sites say 32400 is blocked

My computer (windows firewall) has plex and its services set to allow inbound access. Internet set to Private.
My Netgear (ready to trash and stop buying netgears) has port forwarding rule set up for my computer’s ip address, which is receiving it’s DHCP address from the router as a reservation.
Plex is set to use the 32400 port in the remote settings. ISP is Comcast in Utah

Yet Plex has a red X on Internet.

I’ve been running this service on and off for almost 3 years now. I’ve had those “doh” moments where might have added the wrong address to the forwarding rules or windows changed the internet type to public or i fat fingered the port in plex… but now everything is aligned and i’ve tried 32400-32403 in plex and my port rules, but nothing seems to be fixing the problem.
I can’t freaking figure out what could be the problem. There was even a recent firmware update on my router so i cleared the rules, upgraded the firmware and added the rule again and restarted everything.

What should i look for in which log file that might help if at all, or any help in those other areas would be greatly appreciated.

My next guess is to turn the damn technology off for a freakin’ weak and see if it boots all up running like it should. It worked up until last thursday or so.

Thanks for the help, patience and for the small rant.

Check if your port is open at http://canyouseeme.org/

If it’s opened up properly, then just restart your Plex server.

I had the same issue and nothing was working till I rebooted Plex.

Hope that works!

I don’t use comcast, but along with what is mentioned above you may want to check out the Support Article for Troubleshooting Remote Access more specifically the part on Double NAT.

Thanks for the replies. No Double NAT or CGNAT.
Comcast>Arris Modem>R6400v2(Reserved IP, Port Forwarded, UPNP Off)>Server (Firewall Allowed, Internet Private, verified IP address is the reserved DHCP one)
Port is closed according to port checkers. I bet if i buy an Asus router, this problem would go away.
I miss the old linksys when they had cisco engineering all their products…

Windows Firewall was the problem. I found another thread about firewall not really recognizing the rule applying to the executable after updating Plex, so i deleted the rule and restarted plex and allowed it. I did this a second time and it finally created a second rule. I looked at the rule and i set it to allow all connection types (i know it only needs udp) and it finally worked. Damnit microsoft!

I’ve a similar problem

I’ve used for a long time plex with remote access, but it doesn’t work anymore for a time… Well, ussually I access to my server outside of the network, and I don’t use it inside. As I’ve a plex pass subcription, I don’t worry for it.

But not always works as i need and I want to activate again.

Router is setup, and another apps are accessible from internet without a problem, I ussually check the access from the other network using telnet to the ip and port. But doesn’t work.

But if I make the test form my network it doesn’t work… Very extrange… I’ve deactivate the firewall and activate the log but I don’t see anything in the log. I’ve delete and create the rule a lot of times, and reboot the server, but it doesn’t work.

If I try to check telnet form the local machine with plex it works… but I don’t know why not for another place…

Another think, If I try to change the port, and if I lookup the real port that the app are listening, nothing change, always is the default port

Any idea?

Thanks in advance

Test Windows firewall on/off.
Double check router port forward (toggle off/on and reboot router)
Check Plex manual port option under Advanced options. Use retry as a method of testing after a change.
Also try by restarting the plex app, including after deleting the port rules in the windows firewall, and then allowing it again when plex is restarted.

That along with most of the troubleshooting threads are all i can suggest to help.

Best luck.

Hi SilverSurfer

I’ve check again, and the problem is another the interfaz that is working is 127.0.0.1 but not 192.168.1.2 (my ip)

If I run telnet to loopback plex answer, but if i repeat the test against the local ip doesn’t work

any additional idea?

Best regards
