Existing media

Server Version#: 1.21.1.3830

I’ve setup a working plex server on my truenas.
It works after I followed all the steps about permissions and added datasets.
I can play video’s and music that I upload to the created dataset on a specific pool. (like DISK02)

The issue is, which I cannot find any answer for, how can I add and config existing media in
truenas to seen by plex? The problem occurs when I make a dataset, which becomes a new
folder on that specific pool, but my media is not in that folder, so I’m forced to copy or cut the media data to the new created dataset folder.

I have a lot of pools, and if I want to chromecast a certain video from a folder on some pool (like from DISK00), I am now forced to copy the data to the dataset folder first to access it by plex.

Is this the normal workflow, upload/copy all the media to the created dataset folder?
Or am I doing something wrong?

I manged to add a folder from a pool to plex-server but only thumbnails where loaded in, but
media wasn’t able to play.

Thanks if someone can clear this up for me.

The media needs to have permissions where either the user “plex” or the entire group “plex” has permission to read it. You can add the extra permissions from the ACL editor on the TrueNAS GUI. Might need to adjust things so new content inherits the permissions so new uploaded stuff is already ready to go.
