Failed Plex Upgrade on Asustor NAS

I had some spare time today so decided to apply some overdue updates to my plex server, which is an Asustor NAS.

I saw there was a new Plex server version 1.20.1.3252 available, so I downloaded and installed it.latest version 3.5.1.R8C1.

Things have gone totally pear-shaped.

The Plex service appears to be running, but nothing will connect to it. Not my PC with a web browser (http://192.168.1.5:32400/web), not my Roku, not the android app, not the smart TV. Nothing. And all of these worked this morning.

The obvious solution is to uninstall and reinstall the older version that worked. I still have that version in my downloads directory. However, with the ADM update, I also seem to have lost the “Manual Install” option from ADM.

As this point I have exceeded my technical competence. Help!

NAS OS Version#: 3.5.1.R8C1
Plex Server Version#: 1.20.1.3252-a78fef9a9

Same behavior on my AS-304T.
OS version 3.5.1.R8C1
Plex version 1.20.1.3252-a78fef9a9

I may try something a little more elegant: just uninstall and re-install the most recent app. Will report back.

UPDATE - that worked. Just uninstalled, re-installed the most recent version. It even kept the database so it knows all of my movies, etc. Hope that works for you.

Can you please confirm if a reinstall like fkaprince suggested worked for you? I have also had a similar issue on my AS-602T but reinstall did not work so I’m wondering if its just me.
Thanks.

I had the same issue after updating to the latest version. To solve it I disabled/stopped Plex Media Server then waited a minute, restarted the Asustor, then enabled/started Plex Media Server.

A complete uninstall reinstall didn’t even work for me until I did a couple additional things. Here are the steps that worked for me:

  1. Uninstall the app from NAS
  2. Delete the Plex Media Server directory on NAS (the uninstall didn’t do this on mine)
NOTE: my actual media files were elsewhere, make sure yours are not here either
  3. Launch the Plex app (app.plex.tv) and log in
  4. Go to settings and delete ALL authorized devices
  5. Log out
  6. Re-install Plex server on NAS
  7. You will need to re-add library’s and associated directories but this is easy to do and you will have your media library back in Plex within minutes.

I hope this helps someone else avoid the same frustration I lived through for a week.

Had a similar problem on my latest upgrade. Turned out to be that the clicking on the Plex icon from the Asustor opens a HTTP web page which fails to connect. Looking at the logs, it shows that the server needs a HTTPS connection. Changing the URL to use HTTPS worked fine.

Logs are here, at least on my server:

 tail -f /volume1/Plex/Library/Plex\ Media\ Server/Logs/Plex\ Media\ Server.log
