Hi i was testing this new Subtitle search feature, and it searches correctly, but when i choose the subtitle to download (from opensubtitles) it prompts me with this error: “Failed to download subtitle.”
Is there a place in the logs i can see why this is happening? I have tried turning off my antivirus and firewall to no avail.
Plex Server: Windows 10 - Version 1.13.8.5395
Plex Client 1: Windows 10 - Local Web Client - Version 3.67.1 - Does not show new subtitle feature
Plex Client 2: Windows 10 - Online Web Client - Version 3.71.1 - Does not save subtitle
Plex Client 3: Windows 10 - Plex Media Player - Version 3.69.0 - Does not save subtitle
One curious note, even though my Plex Server is up to date (on Beta channel), Plex Client 1 and Plex Client 2 do not match versions. I would think that as soon as a new version is available online it would be downloaded to the server when i check for updates.
I LOVE the idea of subtitle search, as I am deaf and need subtitles. But sadly it isnt working for me either, hopefully Plex can get this sorted out soon!
Same issue here. I just tried downloading a subtitle on the newest online web client, but no luck. It searches fine and gives me the options, but the download fails. I added my opensubtitle credentials to the subtitle agent, but it still fails.
Well I tried it just now again for the one above and it worked. I don’t think its a rate limiting issue based on how few I have tried so far. So either Plex fixed something on their backend or it depends on the time of the day (assuming 10:45 PM US EST) is non-peak hours and opensubtitles can handle the load.
Will try again at regular hours tomorrow to see how it fares for the same title. It would be a bummer if you can’t use it during regular hours when one would typically be scrambling to find the appropriate subtitle.
This Plex feature does not use the agent nor your login credentials.
EDIT/UPDATE: Tried again today at 5PM US EST and again get the error, so it seems OpenSubtitles cannot handle the load during peak hours.
Solution: From what it seems is Plex is not using its own metadata but rather using the filename. As in this case it fails probably because of the typo in Prisioners.
Edit: Fixing the title in the search field does bring up the results.
This seems to work fine for me when refreshing metadata for a match. But very rarely works if explicitly selecting a subtitle in “More” subtitles dialog.
I have my agent set up with a opensubtitles username and pass, and two languages selected.
Was having the same issue. What worked for me was I had my VPN on when trying to download the subtitles. When I turned off my VPN and redownload it, the download went through successfully. I hoped this fixed your issue.
