Failed to play downloaded file, external storage not found

I have an item downloaded from my server onto my phone (Google Pixel 7). My phone does not have a microSD slot, or any kind of external storage, only internal storage.

When attempting to play this item, I get the error message: Failed to play downloaded file, external storage not found.

I’ve tried deleting and re-downloading the item, and still get the same error. If I set my app’s player to an external app instead of playing through the app, then it works.
