I just ran into this. I’m moving everyone from one server to another.

I log into my account on the computer that has the old server.
I select “Users and Sharing” and select a User I have no yet switched to the new server.
I am able to select the old server and unselect the shared libraries.
I select the new server and can select the new libraries, but as select “Save Changes” - after five users within 10 minutes, I get the following error message: “Failed to update server shares.”

Not sure what you mean.

I have PlexPass and none of my users do. Two of them have their own Plex servers. I added them all one at a time over several years.

When you look at Users & Sharing, it’s divided into two parts,
Home Users and Friends.

The first part are used to create a Plex Home where only 1 person needs to have a Plex Pass account, the admin.

The bottom part is where you share your library to people that already have their own plex.tv account.

It sounds like you have all your shares out to “Friends.”

In the time I cranked up logging to verbose, saved the setting, then went back, reproduced it, then saved the log, stopped verbose logging, made this post, it had fixed itself, maybe 4-5 minutes total. Next click to save my share settings with this friend worked.

Same issue. Re-launched server with new OS but data folder backup. Trying to add users back to the share and after about 5 it gives me the same error

I have the same issue with 1.18.2.2029. Move from MacOS to Linux and looks like you cannot share more than 5 at a time. After you wait 5 minutes or so, you can add another 5 etc.

Same issue, what is the actual time you have to wait and how many libraries can be shared in X amount of time, I have 7 libraries to share between 20 persons, if I have to wait 30 min or more between each it’S going to take for ever !

For the people not getting this right.
Plex have implemented some kind of limit on the server end.

Lets say you have 2 shares. Movies and TV-shows.
Then you can share with 5 users before you need to wait 10 min.

if you have 10 library’s and want to share with your friends then you can share with one friend every 10 min.

if you share 2 library’s with one friend and wait 5 min. Then share the same 2 with four other friends you can then share one library after five minutes.

So the sharing timer is set for each action on plex server end.

I think this “feature” is implemented by plex to stop scripts from mass sharing. They might have done this because of the API and mass friend adding to send spam. Who knows, but this is a feature and it sucks ass. Lets get them to at least increase the value to 100 library’s shared within 10 min.

Just to be clear. This limitation is not on your local Plex server. This limitation is with the API of Plex.tv.
