Failed to update server shares

Server Version#: 1.16.5.1554

While troubleshooting a different issue with my father’s PMS, we ended up deleting my sharing entry on his account, and sending me a new one. When I go back to his user entry and try to now share media with him, I attempt to save and an presented with the error “Failed to update server shares.” For what it’s worth, we were experiencing the same issue on his side (Linux), which is why we deleted my entry and sent a new share request.

I am able to see the libraries he’s shared with me, but I cannot modify the sharing of any of my users now.

Quick update on this… I was able to select one library to share. Clicking save yields the same error, but a second press successfully saved. Attempting to add an additional library, I could not get it to save regardless of the number of times I hit save. Unchecking the one shared library I could successfully save the change.

I don’t think there’s any downside to the following really,
but let me know if you’re concerned.

Both you try to remove your family shares completely,
restart your servers, wait 10min, then recreate the family shares.

Thanks for your reply. I didn’t get an opportunity to try this as I was just able to successfully add the libraries back. I can no longer get the error message to appear.

I’m experiencing this as well… This is not a Home User issue as these are remote users with their own plex logins. I had the same issue where I needed to delete and recreate my server. I was able to update share settings with approximately 5 users before this issue pop’d.

Same with me and same condition. Seems like maybe there is a timeout where you can only update share information with so many users and then you have to wait to share with more? I just migrated to a new server and didn’t even think about having to reshare until everyone was texting me asking if the server was down.

Same for me as well. Migration to a new hard drive. I can add about 3 to 5 people and then it fails. I have to come back later and add a couple more. Not a huge issue as I don’t plan on doing this again but there is something wrong somewhere.

This resolved itself for me after about 30 minutes… no idea what the issue was though.

Same issue. Just migrated my Plex database to a new computer. I’ll check again tomorrow and see if it fixes itself.

I’m going to add to this topic and say I’m experiencing the same thing after migrating to my new server and having to reshare libraries. Also “Plex” I love everything that you do but would you please add the ability to bulk share libraries!

Version 1.18.1.1973

I have the same issue. I can share 10 library’s and then i cant share anymore for 10 min. It does not matter if i share one library with one person and then add multiple for another person. The limit is 10 total shares.

After 10 min i can share the same amount and then get locked out again.

This must be something on Plex’s side since different versions of plex and different servers all behave the same way.

Me too

I’m also experiencing this. So, does PLEX monitor these forums? If not, how do you submit bugs? I’m a Plex Pass subscriber, if that matters…

Yes they monitor the forums. I’m not sure if we’ve found a bug or whether this is a feature. The fact it’s happening to at least five users is good evidence that it can be reproduced.

This’ll require someone to upload debug logs with steps to reproduce.
I could test it here too, but I’m sidetracked atm.

This is really the fix… even when this bug doesn’t happen, sharing libraries with multiple friends is needlessly cumbersome. This could all be done on a single screen with checkboxes rather than having to go one user at a time, applying, backing out, next user, etc.

Reproducing the error is simple, just start sharing libraries with several users and you’ll get the error.
