local playback(movies and TV ) works fine, and remote playback works for TV shows, but remote playback for movies just has a spinning loading animation. This started happening about a week ago when some shared users reported they were unable to load any movies.

I’ve restarted Plex Server, OS, and cleared cache, I’ve removed app data and cache from mobile client and still the same result.

any Suggestions?

Update 1: it appears that I can only (remote)play files that are < ~970 MB, anything >= 1GB fails to load. this lines up with why I can only load TV shows (they are all < 1GB) and some small movies I’ve tried.

What is the Remote Quality Setting in the Remote Client App?

By Default it’s 720p @ no more than 4Mbps.
That guarantees a transcode on your end.
You’ll need a Remote Quality of AT LEAST 15Mbps - I’d go Original.

Also with those ASS subs, unless you set the clients to burn on Image Formats Only - that might have to happen on your server as well.

You have a passmark score of a little over 5000.

I’d say - it’s Direct Play or the Highway.

Yea. It’s set to 720 4 Mbps, this has never(last 7yrs ) been an issue up until last week. I’ve had this server and remote users(up to 3 concurrent ) with zero issues in the past.

Well, the android apps have less than stellar performance lately.
While you wait for the fix - use anything else.

It’s not just android apps that can’t remote play,it’s also iPhone and FirestickTV apps. Even the web app can play if it’s remote.

Dunno.

Something’s changed apparently.

Were it me, I’d try to get everything Direct Playing, or get some things Direct Playing and find out which part of the transcoding is failing.

Make sure they haven’t snuck in Adjust Automatically. That’s an instant transcode as well.
