Is this supposed to be working on my Philips TV as well which runs on Android? I updated to 8.8.0 but my DV profile 7 MKVs fallback to HDR10 when played. I’m guessing my TV could only support other DV profiles like 5 and 8 which would explain why it is working for others on Shield 2019 and not for me.
There is still an issue where Dolby Vision will not be correctly enabled for certain videos / profiles, we are actively investigating this still.
This depends on whether the Android OS your TV runs, has the Dolby Vision decoder, as far as I’m aware the only Android devices that include this are the latest Fire TV 4K and the new SHEILDs (the Pro and the Tube).
It can take a number of days and up to a week, if we spot new issues we will pause the rollout, and introduce a new version. There is also delays in the app store reviews as well as the delays for the app to become available around the world, which are out of our control.
@sixones I sent my logs to @DaveBinM for videos that are not triggering DV on my Sony TV. Do the devs have those logs for review? Frankly, it seems most movies don’t trigger DV. The only movie that I could get to trigger DV is Black Panther.
@mbarylski: sent you a PM. Also, this thread is for the feature request. Beta issues for the DV/Shield are being discussed here, as well.
Makes sense. I have Philips 50PUS7504 Android TV.
My TV supports Dolby Vision & I can watch DV content from Netflix for example, wouldn’t my TV need the Dolby Vision decoder for that as well or how could it display DV content from anywhere without the possibility to decode it?
it may be possible that some apps have licensed the decoder directly from dolby and is embedded into their app, so they don’t have to rely on the device to have it.
just a guess though
DV has numerous profiles. So… DV playback depends on what profiles device supports.
Well, now it’s on day 7 and still no 8.8.0… So I guess it’s a day or 8? Maybe Plex should re-think this ‘staged roll out’.
check @ https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.plexapp.android&hl=en_US&gl=US and see if you can force update and/or uninstall/reinstall.
We found a crash on startup in the app, so we’ve had to apply a hotfix and will begin rolling out 8.8.1. If your in a rush for the latest build, you can install the APK manually to your device.
I won’t be side loading anything from a source that the Google Play Store can’t validate. I also like the protection from their review of the app before they are made available, as thin as it might be.
Also, you don’t have a Plex Pass so the app will only work in trial mode for you since it can’t validate your activation.
I got a media in mkv including both dolby vision and HDR.
How can i choose DV version? Seem like HDR always activate. (show HDR on the pictures)
I have a nvidia shield 2019 pro and a TV compatible DV
I play same type of content on an Nvidia Shield 2019 Pro. If it has a proper DV track, it defaults to that. None of my DV MKV files trigger HDR10.
One thing to check is I noticed the Dolby Vision setting sometimes disables on the Shield. Check display settings to see if it is enabled. Not sure if this is a Shield bug.
In display & sound, dolby vision is activate. But in Resolution, there is nothing display.
If i go to custom display mode, the current display mode show my correct info: 4k Yuv 422 12-bit rec 2020 dolby vision and HDR10 ready
Refresh rate is 60hz
There is no way to know if it’s DV like in netflix there is a popup in the corner showing the media is running DV ?
Are your MKVs created using the latest version of MakeMKV? 1.5.3
The only reason it wouldn’t trigger is if the media is corrupted or not created properly.
Notification of Dolby Vision playing is up to the TV. On my LG OLED, a Dolby Vision notification pops up briefly in the corner. In picture settings, It also is a DV picture mode.
My tv is sony AF9 and nothing showing i’m looking a HDR10 or DV media.
In plex i know i’m looking a HDR media because it’s display HDR in the progress bar.
So i’m guessing my media wasn’t created properly.
Thx anyway.
No, I have a Sony TV too and most movies aren’t working. Black Panther is the only movie that works. Birds of Prey and Aquaman don’t. Both Birds of Prey and Aquaman will trigger DV using Emby, but Plex just completely ignores DV. So, it’s probably how Plex configured the exo player or the Sony TV just doesn’t support certain DV profiles.
That’s not entirely true. There’s an issue with the Dolby Vision decoder that we’re investigating.
I think that’s something that has been mentioned and on the Plex radar.
