[Feature Request] Dual / Multilanguage library for easy sharing with foreigners

My wife like to see her movies in French, she know the French title and does not understand a word of English, so when I created my library I selected French in the language and everything was fine… Until I wanted to share the same library with my brother, who watch all his movies in English, know the English title etc.
Therefore, I had to create a second library with the same files in English and now I see two libraries in my server, and I fear the day my German friend will ask for access.

You should have an option in PMS or in the library to setup multiple languages, and the one used should be determines by the client (if available on the server):

  • See the original title or the localized one, depending on your preferences (or default to English)
  • See the synopsis and genre based on your preferences (or default to English)
  • etc.
PS : Obviously most of my movies have multiple language.

Details:

  • On the server: You should be able to choose all the language you want to support on your library (because it will consume more disk space and it does not make sense to support all language anyway)
  • On the client: You should be able to choose your preferred language for the title / synopsis / genre, like you do for audio and subtitle, and if not available default to the one that is available.

Yeah I would like this feature too.
I hope this will get a response from devs. Is this even possible/planed or would need a big redesign.

The server should download all localized metadata in multiple languages that you specify.
Artwork, collection names, title names, extras, trailers etc.

Better option would be to make a list where you can choose what to download in additional languages.

Yes, a list would be perfect. On the server or library preference… However, as you say it is a major change, I unfortunately doubt it will be implemented, because it’s only useful for family where multiples language are spoken, and it’s not the majority

Let’s pray!!

Hi
Just wanted to concur.
What I would like to see is the original title for all movies, whether US or UK or French or Swedish or Japanese. I spent days entering the information in the file titles, but of course Plex doesn’t take that into account (fortunately I also left the English title so most of the movies were recognized).

You could try what I figured out … you create a new user and share the movie folder with the with that user. Apply the restriction to see only movies with SAP. Now edit your movie list and on the movies that have secondary audio program edit the info of the movie and add the share SAP.
When logged in as the new user only movies with SAP will show. well I hope this helps.

I really want this feature.

Would love this feature as well, having a mix of Swedish and English users. Right now I have my libraries in English since that’s what I prefer and most Swedish users can handle it just fine, but several older relatives “complain” that it’s hard to find something to watch since they can’t fully understand the English synopsis.

Please add option for multiple metadata languages to be downloaded and selectable by user.

Ideal state would be:

Allow administrator of server to fetch metadata in multiple languages and than allow user to choose one language that he/she will see when browsing library.
I dont see reason why one movie could not have metadata in lets say 2 or 3 languages for user to choose ( same as subtitles and audio lang. preferences that are per user for example).

Reasoning:
This would be really helpful in multilingual households, when sharing with friends etc…
Only problem I can see is that it will waste little bit of storage space with downloading essentially multiple copies of the same thing, but to be honest, I am fine with that.

I also vote for this feature.

Basically the movie title and descriptions are not helpful if it’s stored in only one language but you have users that use another language - which happens easily.

I expected the feature exists since the metadata exist in different languages and people are paying for the feature called „remote streaming“. The initial feature request is already a few years old!

Please implement a feature to store multiple versions of metadata of movies.

The stored metadata languages should be downloaded based on connected users account language or easy way by having a list on the server that can be managed for selecting required languages.

Having multi-language metadata for relevant fields (age restrictions being one of them - apart from the obvoius) would open the door for “player language” based metadata delivery from the server.

If I configure my Plex Web to show English, I get everything in English, once a German player connects, it gets German content. That could be combined with user languages, too.

But, handling metadata on the PMS gets harder and harder and harder.

I imagine that I have to choose the correct language to manually set a movie description. And I imagine me forgetting to do so and editing the wrong language
