Hi All,
Is it possible to add a map to one side that could be toggled off and on to show where the photo was taken?
Cheer
This feature would be AWESOME!! Hope it will be implemented:)
I don’t see this happening. Geotagging is a major security/privacy concern and most people turn it off (most devices have it turned off by default nowadays anyway).
I totally don’t agree with that.
First of all: I see more and more people storing their photos and stuff in the cloud!! So privacy doesn’t care anyone in the free world out there (you can google “cloud usage statistics” for more information).
In addition: especially in PLEX, a private (!!) cloud, how should this be a security or privacy issue?
However, I hope that this feature will still come in the near future:-)
@taz420nj:
I do care a lot about data security and privacy issues, but I am still not sure if I get your point.
I know that GPS metatags in photos is sometimes turned off…
…that is something I do by myself to protect my privacy when I am in my home country (or when at home/at work).
However, at least for me it is different when on holiday.
I even use a GPS tracker then to add GPS meta information to my pictures when traveling.
It would be great if plex would show a map in the metainformation panel and to allow for searching/browsing pictures by location. Something similar can be done when using piwigo and the OpenStreetMap plugin. There the information is taken from the metadata of the picture (if I remember correctly GPS is stored as EXIF data). Visualization of the location could be even done much more “up-to-date” than piwigo does it (look at the Mapbox GL visualizations that are doable in a browser today… I am thinking of pan/zoom/rotateable that used WebGL and could even allow for 3D terrains)
What I definitely want plex NOT to do is to sent the GPS data of the pictures to somewhere/someone else (at least allow the user to turn such behavior off - as was done for the automatic picture tagging feature).
All in all: if privacy is regarded then this would be a really cool feature (especially if some “eye-candy” is added)
Agreed, it would be a great feature and shouldn’t be to hard to implement since coordinates are often saved in the exif
That feature would be great! I’m thinking to move all my photos into Plex, but Geo Tagging and ExIF tags are a must.
Yes please. +1

Keeping this thread alive. Any way I can donate $$$ to a specific feature request?
