(Feature Request) Profile for the new Apple TV 4K

It appears the new Apple TV 4K is using the same profile for the older Apple TV that doesn’t support x265 or 4K videos. Since it’s using the older profile it’s transcoding x265 and 4K videos. Looking at other posts, Can a new profile for the Apple TV 4K be added. Similar to the Roku’s and Sony TV’s. They have separate profiles for their different devices.

+1, I have seen some workaround on editing the existing profile, but I can’t get them to work.

+1 , i’d love to go 4K and get the new ATV but holding back until this gets sorted.

I tried also and couldn’t get them to work.

Is there any news from Plex in supporting 4k playback from mkv files on the new Apple TV4K?

I would strongly agree. I recently converted all of my movies to HEVC to work seamlessly and inherently on my Apple devices and they work perfectly, with the exception of Plex on my Apple TV, which somehow feels it necessary to try and transcode the files as opposed to simply streaming them to the Apple TV as is. PLEASE correct this! (I do not have this issue on my Nvidia Shield.)

need this also for Apple TV (4th gen) as that does play HEVC/h265 now. My understanding from @talkthewog and @lisanet is that all they need to do is add the following line to tvOS.xml

<VideoProfile container="mp4" codec="hevc" audioCodec="aac,ac3,eac3" subtitleCodec="mov_text,tx3g,ttxt,text" />

…so not a massive amount of work (for HEVC at least).

This question was asked 2 months ago; 2 billing cycles for paying customers waiting for a yes/no answer, and there’s no response yet? This is frustrating.

Still nothing? I keep editing my tvOS file after each server upgrade …

Please Plex! Hook us 4k’ers up!
