Hello Plex, not sure if this is a feature or more a quality of life user interface / experience thing.
When I am looking to create a playlist for my music I naturally click on my music library then click on playlists to see my already created playlists, then I would expect an option at the three dots next to my library name to show me something like “create new playlist” then have it reveal my music to me where I can pick tracks etc… But it’s not there. Then I remind myself to create a playlist I have to go back to Library then select the track I want, then click add to playlist button, then add the song to the playlist, then it will show up in the playlists section.
This is a bit confusing and cumbersome, would it be possible to add the “create playlist” button right inside the playlists tab?
Plex allows you to add albums, artists, or tracks to playlists. So when you click the proposed “Create new playlist” button, you would then have to have the ability to choose whether you want to add albums, artists, or tracks. Then you select the items you want, then click “add to playlist,” then choose/create the playlist to add to.
It seems the only difference between the current UI and your proposed UI is whether you click the Library tab or the proposed “Create New Playlist” button. The workflow after that is identical.
Somebody already thought of that from the perspective of collections (manually creating collections and assigning items to that collection from the collections page).
They also discuss this option should be the same for playlists – which is what you’re suggesting.
Given that other suggestion has currently 0 votes we can continue in two ways:
We only keep the existing suggestion (adding your comments/vote in that thread)
keep your suggestion separate and focus the existing suggestion only on collections
Thanks @tom80H . Yeah that is similar. It’s just a different flow of how you get to putting stuff into the playlist. On plexamp its very natural and easy to add to a playlist for some reason for me at least using the Plex web UI is a bit more convoluted. I will add my vote to the already existing. And in the meantime just use Plexamp to build my playlists and then fine tweak those lists with the web ui of Plex.
