File Properties Metadata

Is there an app out there that does exactly what Plex agents do for automatically matching files to online databases for title, year, etc metadata… but… also… have a built in function to write that data to the file PROPERTIES? God, I wish Plex had this option already, but it doesn’t, and I cannot find an app that will do it. I can find apps that will create NFO files, but I don’t want or need a bunch of extra folders/files junking up my directories, and I don’t think Plex can use them anyway.

Why? Let’s just say I have a lot of un-Plex-friendly files with some poorly-formatted/inconsistent info especially in the Title field of the file properties, and in the past year or 2 I’ve dealt with computer crashes and server moves, and redoing things again and again isn’t exactly fun. I want to fix them to make them Plex friendly but I’d much prefer an automated way to do so, and something that goes deeper than just the file name.

AFAIK, Nope, but you could move the LMA agent to the bottom of the Primary agent, since then, online detection takes precedence

And regarding bad named files, lookup something like filebot

I’m not aware of anything. Plex can read NFO files if you use a third party plug-in. There’s two that I know of that do this.

I’ve had good luck with this one.

And Avalon XML agent. I’ve not used it though. https://github.com/joshuaavalon/AvalonXmlAgent.bundle

You could possible write your own (or modify an existing) metadata agent that would populate the plex library, and then populate it to the file properties. This might help if you decide to go that route. https://stackoverflow.com/questions/55100191/how-to-get-title-property-from-video-file-in-windows-with-python
