Files missing when connecting USB-drive to Plex through Synology

Hi all,

I have a weird problem that I hope you can help me with.

I have been running Plex for some years using a Synology NAS, and recently I decided to offload some of my movies and TV-shows to an external USB-drive, to save space on my main drives.

The strange thing is, that when I add the folders on the drive in Plex, it only finds some of the files and folders, while others are completely missing. This goes for both the Plex file-browser, and the files identified in the scanning.

If anyone has an idea to fix the problem, I’d be very grateful!

Permissions: check that your plex user has the correct permissions to access all the files and folders on your external HDD.

That did it! Looks like it only had permissions to access some of the files and folders. Thanks a million Gary!

I often find this happens when I copy or move files around using different users. I have a nasty habit of logging into the web interface with my regular ā€œuserā€ account, but scp’ing files or ssh’ing into the box as root. The latter often causes problems if I try to delete something from the Plex interface but root owns the file and I get denied. A little ā€˜chown -r’ every now and again tidys things up.

Yes, I’m pretty sure that’s what happened to me. After fixing the permissions on the folder and subfolders everything worked like a charm!
