Files not showing even in folder view

Hi there.

I’ve been using plex for years with no issues. I use nvidia shield pro as plex server and client. Storage on a synology NAS.

I have had problems recently with files not showing up in the menu, even in “folder” view.

For example, I put a MotoGP race into a folder, scanned the files and it won’t show up. I’ve tried messing with all the settings but to no avail. I never used to have these problems but now it seems impossible to play these files with plex.

Can anyone help me to be able to play these files through plex?

Thanks,

Richard.

Usually this comes down to a permission or naming/organization issue…
To what type of library are you trying to add those files (tv, movie, other video…)?
Would you mind sharing an example of how the files are named / organized inside the folder linked to your library?

Hi, thanks for getting back to me.

The file is named
MOTOGP.2023.ROUND10.AUSTRIA.RACE.TNTSPORTS.WEB-DL.1080P.H264.ENGLISH-DC46.MKV

It’s really frustrating me now, it’s been fine for years but now they just won’t scan in?!

Plex won’t pick up that file in a tv-show library unless you fix the file name (and possibly the folder organization) to comply with the official naming schema.

https://support.plex.tv/articles/naming-and-organizing-your-tv-show-files/

This example should work:

TV Shows <- the folder linked to your tv-show library
  MotoGP
    Season 2023
      MotoGP - s2023e108 - Austria (Race).mkv

https://watch.plex.tv/de/show/motogp/season/2023/episode/108

Thank you, that file name has immediately scanned in and worked perfectly.

How do you know which episode the races and also practice sessions are? I have read that article previously but I don’t understand how the motogp race weekends are organised compared to a traditional tv series.

Thanks again,

Richard.

You can look things up on the TVDB or TMDB

Or you can use a renaming tool like this

This gives you a list directly from the TVDB. You can just drop your file in it and rename it without having to type everything
