Find where to watch something with "Discover" and your "Watchlist"

BUMP - Just wanted to follow up to see whether this behavior is a bug or working as intended (not how I was expecting), and if it could be looked into? Thanks in advance for your hard work and for this fantastic functionality. (Submitted feature request)

Currently doing a re-watch of Star Trek: Deep Space 9. I went into the Plex Watchlist and manually marked the first 6 seasons as played. I was expecting the Season Premiere of Season 7 to show up under my “Continue Watching”, just like anything else I was watching on my Plex server, so I could just jump right in, but it did not.

Thank you, @Atomatth

I’d like to be a part of the beta.

Yes please.

I would go even further and request, as has been suggested in a feature request, a no frills offering without all this external stuff.

I just want my curated content as do my users.

Are Plex getting revenue stream from linking to external services ?

Suggestion: Make the watchlist exportable. Preferably in RSS format please! This would allow me to use Plex to sync with my other watchlists. Making Plex a true hub for all my streaming!

I’d like to see the “Watch from these locations” on all content pages, not just via discover. The main reason is that I might have a 1080p version of a movie, and go in via my normal library to watch it, but if it is also available on one of my streaming services in 4K then I’d like to know and have that option.

Even if it was presented as a ‘Watch Version’ (like when you have multiple copies in different resolutions).

There’s a suggestion for that. Not sure you want to compare a high-quality 1080p rip from a Blu-Ray to some higher resolution low bitrate encode from some of the streaming services out there… higher resolution is not necessarily better quality

It’s working now and I can add/remove services from either the web app (app.plex.tv) or the iOS app.

Still waiting patiently for the Fire TV app to be available to be updated from Amazon App Store - currently still at 8.31.2.31546
Also for the Server version to be updated (on Unraid) but the web app is working well for now.

Discovery has worked as expected, highlighting new free services I can access and so have recently added Pluto TV among others.

I know this feature is still in Beta, but it would be even better if we can keep track of the movies and tv shows from other streaming services in “Continue Watching”, this is so we don’t have to manually mark episodes as watched.

My question is can I choose a category. For example, sometimes I am searching for a comedy. Sometimes I want to watch crime shows. Sometimes I want drama. Sometimes news. Can I search for streams based on these and other categories?

Welcome to the internet… :upside_down_face:

That would require that streaming service to send your watch data to us which is likely against their privacy policy.

I’m sorry you cannot it is mainly geared towards finding something specific but I will pass that idea along.

This feature isn’t limited to Beta users for trying out. Just make sure your clients are up to date and you will get new update eventually.

How do we stop a third party from seeing our search activity, since search now includes advertisements for other content even if we have specified we aren’t interested in any streaming service?

I consider it a serious privacy breach that my search queries are being sent to some external API, especially because I don’t have, don’t want, and am not interested in any other streaming provider.

Search is now unusable, since every piece of content that’s ever existed on every streaming service is now always in the results.

“It’s in beta” is not an OK answer for degrading the experience this much, especially in a way that does not respect my privacy. Also, I don’t want to be your guinea pig – I should be able to opt out of any betas, including this one.

There is feature request for it, you can vote here: Fully Disable Discover & search results from Streaming Services (More Ways To Watch)

Discover is what I though the Appletv app was supposed to be,. But on steroids!

On the nit-picky side at 1st glance we have found:

  • when a program is found in the search on Discovery+, the application tries to launch the content in the “Discovery Plus” application (which leads to a search on the apple store for an app with that name).
  • Can we get Motortrend+ support?

Look forward to more integration (home iTunes libraries would be huge).

Wow thank you so much for for these great new features! I was really waiting for this and you have implemented this in a very nice way!

I have a few points to note:

Region Netherlands:

  1. I miss Youtube in the streaming services list.
  2. The reference to the streaming service NLZiet on the Apple TV is not going well. I installed NLZiet as an app on the Apple TV, but Plex keeps referring me to the app store to install the NLZiet app.
  3. Not all programs from Discovery + can be found or do not refer to the streaming service. A good example is the program Naked & Afraid. This program is from Discovery but Plex states that there is no service that offers it.
  4. Is it also possible in the future to add your own series on the Plex server to the great watch list?

Thanks again for Discover and the Watchlist! I finally have all media as a starting point from 1 app!

Is it an idea, as with JustWatch in Plex itself, to get a has the content watched question if you come back after watching a movie or episode of the series. if the content has been watched yes/no and if yes, then the episode will automatically marked as watched

I’m not really sure what this means. You can add series that are on your server but your server libraries need have have things matched with the new Plex TV Series or Plex Movie agents.

Thank you! Good to know, 'm going to work on this
