First of all, I’d like to start by saying that so far as highlighted by other users in this forum, the new player has more bugs than offering new features.
OK, now about the issue that I’m facing:
I have 100s of Music Videos which I used to play on shuffle with the old player on my Fire Stick TV flawlessly. Now with the new player, most of the time instead of automatically playing the next video in the queue it repeats the same track but with no audio or video. At first I though it freezes after it finishes playing the video but when I checked the server’s dashboard I noticed the status is showing that the client is playing the same track from the beginning again but with no video/audio. If I wait for the repeated track to finish then it goes to the next video in queue and plays it properly. This happens with almost all videos in the queue (playing each videos properly for the first time properly and then it repeats the same track again with no video/audio).
I’ve noticed exactly the same issue even when playing random episodes of a show.
Lastly, I’d like to note that if I disable the new player everything goes back to normal. Also I’ve tried any of 8.x client releases and all of them has exactly the same issue.
Any hints how to troubleshoot this annoying issue?
I have been noticing this problem with my Amazon Fire HD8 tablet (Im running the latest player/server versions) I also have a playlist of a bunch of youtube music video ripped to mp4, I typically let it play randomized in my background, but recently in the last month or two, after a video or two, it will go silent, with a static video preview pic, if I look at the player carefully, it looks like its playing the last video file, (based on duration) but with no video and no audio, so if i just let it play (silence) after the duration of silence, it will start the next song. If i ‘skip’ to next song, itll start playing ok, or if i skip to the next song when the video does play, its ok. very irritating.
I dont see a setting to disable the new player, so Im SOL
ah! I think i found the solution myself. in advanced settings for video, there is an option ‘prefer playing downloaded content first’, as soon as i turned that off, my multiple videos played with no problem and no ‘blank’ repeat videos between each video.
im guessing theres some kind of caching file that plex may be trying to play
dang. spoke too soon, after about 4-5 videos, the same thing started happening, a phantom video starts playing with no audio, then continues with another video playing fine, then phantom etc.

Just FYI today even after upgrading to latest plex server and plex for Android TV I’m still facing the same annoying issue.
I changed every possible settings in the player but still the same.
Hoping somebody from Plex support can find a remedy.

I wonder if this is some kind of amazon android/os type of quirk, I haven’t heard of other android tablets users complaining, I may have to give it a try.
Im so bummed, I may have to revert to playing files locally or via network-share using vlc.
It seems Android version has many unique problems. I suspect its Highly sensitive to server distance, RTD, NAT and network Topology along with different type of android player hardware.
I was looking at release notes from 3.8.0 since it is the version that started breaking of streaming on my firetv. I suspect one of these new network functions introduced in 3.8.0 causing it. possibly It is also cause of similar issues on other streamer clients (LG, Roku)
Player: improve startup speed by removing unncessary network request.
Player: improve playback on networks with DNS rebinding protection.
