Fire TV won't play many x265 and more and more x264 files on local streaming

Server Version#: 1.18.8.2527
Player Version#:7.29.2.16071

Hey i’ve noticed that Plex player on the fire stick will not play most x265 and many x264 files more and more lately. They play fine on the PC Plex web window. They also play fine on VLC.

is there something going on with the Amazon Fire TV app that is causing the issue?

Maximus…

I hope not - I am in the process of re-sampling my entire library of movies (113 of them) from Matrovska (AVC) to .M4V (X.265 - HEVC) files. I did one last night .MKV file was 14.86GB the new one is 5.62GB…and from watching it - I saw NO DIFFERENCE - even had the 6 ch audio.

interesting I just can’t get westworld in .mkv format to load. it keeps saying there is an error and to reset server and app.

FireTV/Plex is screwed.

There are so many bugs they’ll never be able to fix them all.

  1. the new player - all but useless for most - disable that - see if it makes any difference.
  2. Max 264 Level - disable - or change to 5.2 - or maximum - see if that makes any difference.
  3. Display Information - enable - when you bring up the OSD - if you can actually get the file playing - if transcoding it’ll tell you why - perhaps that’ll lead to a setting or condition that if changed may change something.

Other than that - you wait for the fix - or buy something else - like a Roku (the Plex FireTV Team doesn’t work on the Roku App).

Thank you! I disabled the player and limited max 264 to 5.2 with great success.
