I have a Plex Media Server running on macOS, and its media files are stored on a NAS the Mac has mounted. I’ve been using it for a while just fine with TV Shows and Movies. Just recently, I have a new use case where I want to use Plex to serve out home movies taken with a GoPro. I don’t really care at all about metadata, good clip naming, or anything like that. I want a way to simply transfer the raw media files (named GOPRxxxx.MP4) right off the GoPro memory card onto the NAS, and have them get picked up by Plex. Simple, right?
I created a new folder on the NAS where I have been storing all media. Existing folders were Media > Movies, and Media > TV Shows. Each of those folders have subfolders, and as I stated Plex is dealing with them just fine. I created a new folder Media > Home Video. I dumped 50 GoPro .MP4 files in there.
I went to Plex web app, clicked + next to Libraries.
For Select type, I chose Other Videos and for name I typed Home Video
Under Add folders, I clicked Browse and navigated to the previously mentioned NAS folder Media > Home Video
I finished, and then within a second it just says “There are no items in this library”
I have done some searching around and after doing so, looked under Advanced in the new library and made sure the Scanner was set for Plex Video Files Scanner and the Agent was set for Personal Media. These were already selected. I have seen many comments mention that organization and naming matters for Plex. I did find this page though (https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200265246-Personal-Media-Movies) and it seems like there should be nothing wrong with what I’m doing - one flat folder with video files just auto sequentially named by the camera GOPRxxxx.MP4
What am I missing?
