For the love of god!

Can someone help I have just changed to full fibre and have 900Mbps upload speed available and noticed that the relay option limits the bandwidth. I have tried turning this off but it make external access fail.

I have the port forwarding set in my router and the plex server is running on a synology.

What I’m trying to do it enable unlimited upload bandwidth remotely while using nordvpn for download station.

I have tried everything I have found on the forum so far but I’m getting so frustrated!

Can anyone help me out please?

VPNs are tricky beasts if not setup properly. This can easily be what’s causing your remote access struggle.
Did you already have a look at the troubleshooting guide?

Thanks Tom I have been through that.

I’ve just noticed in my router It’s public IP address is different to the one Plex sees and the one seen by “whatsmyipaddress” I don’t have any vpns running, so I’m just waiting for my provider to get back to me as this looks odd.

Does your routers IP start with 100.64.0.0 → 100.127.255.255?

It’s in that range yes. What does this mean?

It means your ISP is using carrier grade NAT. You will have to contact them to see what you need to do to get port 32400 forwarded to your router…

Just got this reply from my provider

Yea well… I’m not sure about Plex and IPv6 so if you have the extra cash you might want to get that static IP.

It would be the easiest solution…

Thanks for the help was hoping not to have to get a static ip :frowning:

Unless they are somehow able to forward port 32400 to your router you’ll need that static IP. Otherwise devices won’t be able to talk outside your own network.

You can do this with a VPN but it’s more complicated and will prolly cost more than $8 per month.

I’m not familiar with any of the popular VPN providers so somebody else will have to help with that.

IPv6 will only work with a subset of Plex clients for now. That’s namely the Apple devices (Plex apps for iOS and Apple TV) and Plex Web… iirc Plex Web only recently started working over an IPv6 connection.

Just found this might try when when I get home what do you guys think?

Just keep in mind your ISP might still dynamically assign a different IPv6 address over time.
For the clients mentioned above this workaround should not be required.

Right so I had to go with the static ip in the end.
Can someone advise me the best way to use a vpn while still give access to Plex?

Looking like it’s all up and running with enabling multiple gateways and adding the Plex IP’s on the static route section

Here we are again. Plex and ipv6.

Yeah wish I didn’t have to pay £8 a month to sort it out :smiling_face_with_tear:

Well… Plex should have added ipv6 support years ago and not forcing their customers to pay for a legacy ip address.

You can setup ipv6 remote access if you only have Apple devices. Just use synologys ddns for ipv6 and as a custom URL in the pms settings. Opening tcp port 32400 in your routers settings is also needed. Keep in mind that you may need a more advanced router that can adjust firewall rules if your ISP assigns you a dynamic prefix.

Or setup reverse proxy may help.

Thanks I was going to try that but not every one that uses it has Apple kit :sweat_smile:
