Forced to change Password, Now can't Claim Server on Nvidia Shield

Server Version#:1.27.1.5916-6b0e31a64
Player Version#:4.76.1

Like a lot of people here the forced reset of passwords this morning caused my server to go unclaimed. Now I am unable to reclaim it.

Going to :32400/identity shows claimed=0 I then tried to go to :32400/web and it lets me select my server from the preferred servers list but only shows the free streaming media options. I get no server options under settings.

If I try to access app.plex.tv I see all my libraries with the yellow warning exclamation. and clicking on one says “shield server currently unavailable.” If I go settings here I can see my server with the red warning exclamation and its endlessly trying to reconnect. Only option I have there is to try again or remove server.

I tried Claimit and it returns the error:

PROBLEM: getting plex.tv Authorization Token… Job Aborted
Error was: The request was aborted: Could not create SSL/TLS secure channel.
FATAL ERROR… Job Aborted

Any ideas on what to do to reclaim my server on shield tv?

I am in the exact same boat. I have the same results on all the steps above you tried, including running Claimit.exe. I also tried in Shield deleting the app data. In the settings for the Plex app on Shield, I scroll down to Plex Media Server, which has status = Stopped. I try to start it, and it never succeeds.

I have same problem. Not impressed. Spent hours last night trying everything but server will not start, just stays in “Stopped” mode.

Could we be affected by this thread and need to request a new certificate?

Still no luck I tried replacing the preferences.xml from a backup I had and rebooted that did nothing. I tried following this:

That also did nothing. I’ve done everything that various support FAQ and random forum/reddit posts have suggested and still no result.

Can a team member please explain why I would be unable to reclaim my server at all? Its running and visible from both

<server-ip>:32400/identity

and

<server-ip>:32400/web

but I am unable to reclaim it as it will not show up in the general section of settings. What am I meant to do at this point?

Have my server back, with all links. Server is on Nvidia Shield and data on Synology NAS. Went to web browser on Mac and entered “http://192.168.1.6/web” (the 6 represents whatever plex link is). This brought me to a screen that said “finish setup” - I hit ok and it took me to a screen saying “server is unclaimed - claim server” I clicked on claim server and my server was up and running again with all pinned links still pinned, timers still all set for recording. Happy for first time in 12 hours. Plex needs better instructions or system for when changing password.

GTiCrow I’ve done this a dozen or so times and have seen the “finish setup” prompt but never once has the server unclaimed notification ever popped up was there anything else you did that may have forced that to come up?

The only thing I did was I went to change the name in case it was setting up another new Server by adding a 2 to the name, then decided to delete the addition. It may have been then that the Claim Server appeared. That is the only thing I can think of.

I have a 2nd shield TV in the house. I setup a new Plex media server on that old Shield, and at least that is working and I am building out the libraries now. It’d be nice to get the original server working again, but I’m lucky to have a backup I can go to. Of course, now I don’t know where I left off in any of my shows and movies.

One final attempt after 3 hours and I got it working. Not entirely sure anything I did helped at all but here was the final steps that worked for me.

  • In the web client I could still see the Server but it was showing as empty/inaccessible so I removed it from the account in settings.

  • I shut down the shield and pulled the external drive that has all my database data

  • Backed it up just in case then took a 3 month old BU I had of preferences.xml that still had the onlinetoken value filled in and copied it over the existing one on the drive (manually typed in the values before that didn’t work).

  • Booted back up and still no option to claim so I basically left it alone for an hour.

  • rebooted the shield one last time and the option to claim finally showed up.

Honestly don’t know if any of that nonsense did anything or if it was more related to plex website being unstable for most of the day with all the password requests and I was just finally able to catch it at a point that worked out.

I hope I am not forced to reset my password on my Sheild… this all sounds like a real nightmare!

Yup, I have this issue too. Changed password this morning, and I can no longer access the server. Big red triangle next to the server name at https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/web/general. The Shield is definitely online, but I cannot access it from my Mac via SMB, and when I try and start PMS in the settings from the Shield app nothing happens. I have tried http://192.168.1.xx/web from the browser of my desktop, but simply get " This site can’t be reached 192.168.1.xx took too long to respond."

Would I be able to access a backup by disconnecting my shield, plugging it into my desktop as local storage, and accessing it on my Mac through the gloriously janky Android File Transfer?
