Hello,
I am running plex on Fedora with the version above.
I have several hundred collections that plex automatically created plus a few that I manually created.
I have noticed that the MovieDB now has good descriptions and collection specific artwork now available.
I have been unable to figure out how to get plex to refresh content for a collection. Doing a meta data refresh seems to update the data for individual movies, but not for the collection itself.
I can move the files outside of the directory tree, scan, move them back, and scan and it will create a new collection with all the metadata and the new collection artwork. But, I really donât want to do this for all of my movies as I suspect it would lose all of the manual collection updates I created.
So, is there anyway to get plex to refresh this data?
Just refreshing metadata on a single item in the collection should refresh the collectionâs title, summary and artwork as long as the following is true:
The collection was automatically created by Plex using the new movie agent.
None of the collectionâs metadata fields are locked (we wonât overwrite locked fields).
Ok. I just tried updating one collection by refreshing meta data on one movie ( actually all in the collection ). It did not update the collection title or artwork.
I switched to the new movie agent when it became available, but 95% of my collections were created with the previous version.
probably the simplest manner is to go to Plex Web > whichever library > collection section > checkbox the first item, then shift checkbox the last item (all collections selected) > 3 dot menu > delete
then refresh metadata on library which should regenerate the automatically created collections.
you would of course loose any custom created libraries and have to recreate manually.
alternatively, if you are able to identify the collections which are not being refreshed and you think they should be, you could select only those collections and delete them, then refresh metadata.
I would create a backup of the database before making any modifications, in case you wish to roll back.
plex web > settings > troubleshooting > download database
I followed these steps and excluded the collections I had manually created. Then I had only a handfull of collections. Then I forced a meta update for all on the library and watched it go through all of my movies. However, now I still only have the collections that I manually created. The metadata update did not recreate any of the âplexâ collections.
yes but there could be collections of the same name in other libraries.
this is how you would link movies to related tv shows, or music/soundtracks
that said, I do not know why else the collections are not regenerating, unless perhaps it is related to the âslow responses to plex.directâ forum notification.
If I move some files out of the directory and move them back in, then they collection is recreated just fine. But just doing a metadata update isnât doing it.
I ended up having to do the âplex shuffleâ to get all the collections to rebuild, but I do have the new collection posters and summaries which is nice. Hopefully I wonât have to do this again
Yep, as the collections were created before you upgraded to the new agent it wouldnât have updated automatically. Glad you seem to be sorted out now though.
When you delete collections, it seems that the collection tag is deleted on the movies and the collection field is locked on theses movies. So refreshing metadata does not repopulate the collection field and so the collection is not recreated. :
so :
delete a collection
select all movies of this collection and unlock the collection field then save
Here is how I solved my collection mayhem.
I had manually added/auto generated collections but I wanted the ânew plex collectionâ metadata. (I like it, job well done Plex.)
-manually deleted all collections.
-upgraded the library and refresh all metadata. (you can go over to Settings > Alerts and see the progress).
-make sure âUse collection info from The Movie Databaseâ is checked.
Under:
Settings > Agents > Plex Movie (Legacy) > Plex Movie (Legacy) gear icon.
Settings > Agents > The Movie Database > The Movie Database gear icon.
-set Minimum automatic collection size to 2
Home, Movie library 3 dots (action button) Manage Library > Edit > Advanced. scroll down and look for âMinimum automatic collection sizeâ set it to 2.
Save Changes.
-Go Home, go to your movie library you want plex to generate collections for. Make sure you are under the Library Tab (shows all movies in that library).
Select all movies on your library. (hover over the first movie and click the top left corner circle to select the first movie). With the first movie on your library selected, scroll to your last movie on your library and press and hold the âShiftâ key on your keyboard and hover over the last movie and click on the top left corner circle to select it all movies).
Once all movies are selected, top right corner click the Edit icon > Tags > under Collections (tag) click the lock icon to turn it on (colored) save changes. Then turn it back off (no color) again and save changes.
After doing the recommended steps, I had to change the agent in the library from Plex Movie to The Movie Database in order for collections to populate. Leaving the Plex Movie wasnât working for me. I even did the Plex Dance to no avail.
