Looks like the Shield’s Plex player updated overnight, and now whenever I try to play content on my local network, I get random frame dropping/stuttering, where it is like 5-10 frames are dropped every 30-60 seconds or so.
Rebooted everything without any change, including router. Plex plugin for Kodi still works perfectly fine.
Same here. Exactly the same behaviour as described by @jstronghill on my 2017 shield. I ended up resetting the shield to go back to the build-in version of PLEX (with the old UI). Now everything works as normal. Please solve this problem quickly.
Server Version#: 1.18.8.2468-5d395aa9d Linux
Player Version#: 7.29.0.15876 Shield TV Pro
Since the update multiple video files, 1080p, DTS, AC3 all now have a few frames skipped rather randomly every few seconds. Anyone else experiencing this? Tried old and new player. iPad plays (direct play for the suitable content, transcoded for the others) fine. Refresh rate switching on/off makes no difference either. Same files were perfect before this release.

Same stuttering on Shield Pro 2019 after update - although I was able to fix it by turning off the new player (which the upgrade kindly enabled for me without me even asking - grr)
Guys, I had the same issue on 7.29.0.15876, Shield Pro 2019 but it now seems to be gone after upgrading to the Shield software version 8.1.1(32.7.301.99). I don’t know if this is what solved it or the reboot, just wanted to let you know.
@cyberlnk
Changing the UI alone won’t help.
I had to reset my 2017 shield to factory settings. It deleted everything on the shield but it reverted to the build-in PLEX app (v5.6xxxx with the old GUI). I didn’t know how else I could downgrade from v7.29.0.xxx
