2015 shield tv pro - Same as everyone here all of a sudden since one of the latest updates all alot of stutter
Shield 2017.
Random playback stutter / dropped frames every 5-10 seconds since the 7.29.x plex app update.
Completely unacceptable, is the QA team at plex asleep?
Exact same problem here.
Would you look at that…an actual problem has surfaced and not a single Plex employee to see, they’re probably too busy writing another blog post about some crap feature nobody asked for.
Always the same with Plex, one step forward, two steps backwards.
I’m experiencing the bug in a somewhat different way, but it started with the exact same update, so it’s probably related. Others have seen the same as me, for me it plays fine, but after a few minutes playback stops on the shield, but continues on the server. Atleast that’s the impression after restarting the stream and you aren’t starting again where you got the freeze, but later where you exited the video.
EDIT: And please stop making the “new video player” the default with every update. It sucks big time, make it work first, before shoving it down our throats!!
Just adding my +1 for a fix for this too. 2017 Shield with the same latest client and server versions.
sigh
Same issue here on 2017 Shield Pro. Reverted to using Kodi for now as I don’t know how to fix this.
+1 for me. All other Video apps (Netflix/Amazon/etc) have no issues even with any playback for any type of content .
Same problem here, menu also skips/hangs after playing a video
I have found 4K/HDR does play correctly, the issue appears to be only on 1080p content for me. Can someone else try and confirm?
I cant confirm this. In my System also stutter on UHD movies
Same here stuttering on nvidia shield 2017
Same here. Have 3 Shield TVs and all have stuttering/jitters after the last Plex update. Very frustrating.
It seems interesting, many folks complaining about frame drops or stuttering… Others (like me) don’t see that, but instead playback simply freezes after 8-10 minutes.
To fix it for now, go to settings, apps, Plex. And choose the uninstall updates option.
This will reset it back to the original old Plex app. Atleast this works till Plex wakes up and fixes the problem. How the hell they could release an app update that breaks the literal purpose the app was built for is beyond me.
does switching off the new player in the plex app settings make any difference to this issue?
does switching off the new player in the plex app settings make any difference to this issue?
Nope.
Same here. Fix it, please.
Well, I spent a good hour trying 500 things on my own before coming here to find out that Plex broke their own app. Good job, Plex devs!
xsirxx, thanks for the tip. I uninstalled the updates but now I’m back to Plex 5.x.
Three questions.
- How can I stop it from upgrading to the latest version automatically until we know it’s fixed?
- Is there any way to upgrade to the version just prior to this issue showing up or am I stuck with two options – Ancient, and new but broken?
- Is anyone from PLEX paying attention here???
Same here - just occurred this week. Any way to revert a single version vs uninstalling all updates?
I spent over an hour this morning trying to figure this out - even installed Kodi for the first time on the shield.
Any news from Plex dev that this has been acknowledged as a problem at least?
Any chance playing with the Max H.264 setting could help? I uninstalled and noticed that setting is not on the original app at all, which begs the question as to whether the old one was locked into a lower H.264 setting. Just a thought. Someone play with it and let us know. I’m not re-upgrading - at least not tonight.
