Frame drop/stuttering on Shield (2017) in latest player update

I had it set @ 6.x (when it recommended 5.2)…dropped it to 5.2 with no change in behaviour. I’ll check others and come back in 5.

So, I just tried re-upgrading (even though I said I wasn’t going to tonight) and I don’t know if I just lucked out or if it is the fix we’re all looking for, but after uninstalling all updates and then re-updating via the Play Store, I’m not seeing any jittering or dropped frames.

Maybe, just maybe, something odd is being left behind when you update from the previous version vs an update all the way from original.

All my settings are gone, but I’m ok fixing that if this fixes my problem!

ok so x264 settings 5.2, 5.0, 4.0, 3.0 and disabled all don’t make a difference with the jittering.

Will try the uninstall & reinstall updates trick now to check that.

Confirmed fixed. Uninstall all updates, re-update. Problem goes away. Boom

Same on my Nexus Player. Casting to it from my phone works flawlessly so that’s my current workaround. Annoying though, because if I wanted a Chromecast on that TV I’d have one.

Uninstanlling the app and reinstalling fixed it for me (2019 shield). Thanks for sharing.

Short Test confirmed. Re installiert plex App fixed stuttering / Drame drop

Haven’t you guys noticed that removing and re-installing will give you version 7.28 instead of 7.29? Seems that they pulled the update…

Confirmed, looks like they did pull the 7.29.x update.

Removed, then re-installed and I got the 7.28.x version again which has no issues.

I can also confirm: 5.6xxx to 7.28xxx cures all the problems.

This is the way.

Plex on AndroidTV v7.29.15876 was pulled after release. The official stable version for Plex on AndroidTV is 7.28.0.15501. For everyone that already updated to the regressed update, simply uninstall the app and reinstall it. You will receive v7.28.0.15501 which is the last public release for the 7.28.0.x software train.

Google really needs to implement something to warn us that this has occurred and/or offer a rollback feature.

Thanks for letting us know that the version was pulled I shall now run it on our Players so we have them working once again.

Okay so that was fun. Uninstalled, reinstalled, reconfigured the interface to how I like it, and then find out it’s running 7.29 anyway. I won’t bother doing the other Nexus Player if I’m just going to end up with the same version reinstalled.

New Version 7.29.1.16015 was released yesterday with a fix for the playback issues reported here.

+1.
Shield (2017)
Confirmed the server/stream etc. is OK by running Plex Add-On for Kodi. Uninstalled all updates for the Nvidia Shield Plex app, brought it back to 5.x (can’t remember)… rebooted, and installed the update to 7.28.x (current)… seems the micropause/stutter issue is gone.
