I have Plex server on Synology NAS and Plex client on Win 7 PC
On the Client/player I can access my own local movies and music. But the Plex “free movies and TV” does not show as an option to select. Web Shows/Podcasts/Music is listed but won’t play? I get “Playback error” but the adverts will play?
2… On the server I can access the free Plex movies etc… but only when not signed in?
What is happening?
This all worked before I upgraded plex server/client.
Just so i understand if you go under MORE on the home screen side bar and scroll down the the Plex source where Movies & TV should be. On the desktop windows app you see the source but nothing plays. When using the web browser (which browser?) at https://app.plex.tv it does not even show up when you are signed in. Is that correct?
I have Synology Plex Server set up on my Synology NAS.
On my Windows 7 PC I have Plex Player (Client)
On my PC When signed in, under !“Plex” I see Web Shows, Podcasts and Music only( these don’t work and give playback error when I try to play anything) I do not see “Live TV” or “Movies and Shows” I also see Plex Server with my own internal films and music listed and these play perfectly (they are stored on the Synology NAS)
On my Synology NAS, when I run the Plex Server all is good. I see and can play all my local film and music stored on the Synology and I can also see and play all the external Plex services including “Live TV” or “Movies and Shows”
Windows 7 is no longer supported by Microsoft. Because of that, it has to be treated as “compromised” by now. It may be no longer “trusted” by the DRM which is mandatory for the free streaming services.
You appear to be using Plex Media Player. PMP is deprecated and never had the ability to access the free streaming sources “Movies & TV” and “Live TV (on Plex)”.
PMP is not the same as “Plex (Player) for Windows”. The latter is suported and works with the free streaming sources (when used on a supported operating system). Download below
OK. Thanks BigWheel and OttoKerner.
I grabbed a new Win 10 laptop we had and installed Plex Player for Windows on it.
It sees, and plays, all external Plex streamer free media and also media stored locally on the Synology NAS through Plex Server for Synology. So obsolescence was the problem that finally caught up with me. Thanks again for the advice and solution.
