Plex free, streaming service /w adds, coming to PC?

Saw an article this morning mentioning a new feature. ad supported Movies and TV on plex.

on my phone (Pixel 2) in the plex app, i can watch these movies/shows, and stream/cast, but on my PC, which i have my Plex server set up on, and use as a bedroom TV, I don’t get this feature.
It lists my server as up to date ( 1.18.3.2111 ).
Is this intentional, or is their any plans to bring this to the Windows Plex Server as well?

Supported apps listed here:

This service is not related to having Plex Media Server installed. Now if you’re talking about using the web client, you can view these movies via https://app.plex.tv/desktop

Is this only supposed to work on certain OSes? Currently streaming doesn’t seem to work on my FreeBSD desktop (haven’t tested others yet), but I did get it working on my iPhone with the update from today. Web App is version 4.16.2

Is this the URL you’ve tried? https://app.plex.tv/desktop

Yes it is, and I am mandating secure connections

Can you share which browser? Do you have any ad-blockers installed on the browser?

I do have ad-blockers but they’re all disabled. I have `https://github.com/StevenBlack/hosts on my network but it doesn’t seem to block the videos on mobile…will test ads playing in a bit when I have time to sit down and watch something. My browser is Firefox 71

It’s using Encrypted Media Extensions, so it is unlikely to work on many platforms. From the looks of it, it is trying to use the Fairplay Content Decryption Module. It probably also supports Widevine CDM as well, considering Fairplay only works on Apple devices. (This test was done on Linux.)

From what I gather Widevine isn’t supported on FreeBSD. Widevine is apparently supported on Linux. (I’ve never attempted to get it to work.)

Ahh, the link worked, ty
Normally i just use the link to the server
http://1xx.0.0.1:xxxxx/web/index.html#
which i guess doesnt have it

Not sure what the difference is, but i guess ill use the new link now

The one at your IP address is what comes bundled with your install of PMS.

The other one (that I posted) is hosted by Plex and will “talk” to your PMS as needed. Anyone with a simple, free plext.tv account can use VOD via that URL without ever needing to install PMS

That would explain it :frowning: figured, but worth a try

so, in Simple terms… it works on win 10 on web browser ie: firefox, but, it does NOT work on win 10 plex application, correct?

Currently, that is correct.

Thank you… most likely, they are working on it? correct?
