Looking to see if anyone has perhaps moved from a Windows based Plex Server to a Synology NAS and of how to transition retaining Plex data/libraries and whatever else Plex needs - if it is even possible without starting over.
Any tips or guides on how to move from Windows Server 2016 Essentials to Synology DS-1502+ would be appreciated. I do not know if it will be running DSM 6 or DSM 7 (per other comments and threads here) or if that is just a device setup choice.
There are many posts here in the forums where that has been done.
If you mean DS1520+, you’ll have the choice of either.
DSM 6 is the older OS and, if/when DSM 8 comes out, it won’t be supported
All current efforts are on DSM 7. Packaging to make it as close to DSM 6 as possible is about to be publicly released to all (it’s been in Forum Preview a while now).
All said & done. your PC has more CPU power than a NAS. If you have subtitles, you’ll be better off with the computer. If you have nice clean, no-subtitles, video, the NAS will serve you well doing both storage and media serving.
I had tried to search for how to transition from Windows but did not seem to find an article. Good advice on the PC side and will consider but do not use subtitles (yet!). In fact, it was one reason for looking at the DS1520+ - so that it is not as limited as lower level Synology devices.
Do you by chance have a good link or two of how to migrate across platforms?
