Moving my Plex Media Server from Windows to Synology NAS

Hi all.
My current Plex Media Server is running on Windows but I adquired a Synology NAS and I would like to move the server to that device for freeing my PC resources and improving the Plex Media Server Performance.
I tried to find some information about but but without success. Could you please try to help me?
Thanks and kind regards.

You might want to keep an eye on this thread… While they are talking about Linux to Synology, the process will be pretty much the same in the end…

Thanks for your kind proposal.
I will take a look to your recommendation, although I am not sure if some referred operations mentioned for linux will can be performed on Windows.
Regards.

I have to respectfully disagree with the above statement… While one OS might be better at doing certain things over another, all you are really trying to accomplish here is moving some files (mainly the databases) to a new system, put them in the proper places, with the corrected path to the stored media, and preferably without having to manually editing the databases… Nothing more and nothing less and I know you can easily do that with Windows as well as Linux… As a last resort, you can try to manually edit a COPY of your database following instructions here

Certainly, that sentence is a little bit confusing, sorry.
I meant while from Linux to DSM could be similar O.S., Windows is different regarding to some aspects (charset, binaries structure and so on)
Anyway, I appreciate your support and will try to proceed like post is proposing.
Best regards.

What model of Synology?

Most Synology NAS have low power CPU, such as ARM or Celeron. Such units may have trouble transcoding video. Units with Celeron processors can use the embedded GPU ASIC (hardware accelerated transcoding) to assist with video transcoding. However, a Plex Pass is required to enable that capability.

You can review the NAS Compatibility List and associated NAS Compatibility Guide (Google Docs spreadsheet) to see the level of performance you can expect from your NAS.

Regarding moving from Windows to the NAS:

See this support document:
Move an Install to Another System

Suggest you read these two documents as well. They will help you avoid common pitfalls when installing & running Plex on a Synology NAS:

Synology Frequently Asked Questions

If your NAS has the Celeron J4xxx CPU (some 2020 models) and you do acquire a Plex Pass to enable hardware acceleration, then you definitely need to see FAQ #26. Otherwise video transcoding will not function correctly.

To add to FordGuy,

There are a couple segments (FAQs) to be attentive to when moving from Windows -> any Linux platform.

The before, actual move, and then the cleanup after (files which are easier to remove after the move is complete.

Don’t forget to take care of that or metadata won’t work right

Thanks so much for your appreciated support.
Synology device is a DS1517+, equipped with 5 x 4Tb WD Red.
I will do as suggested.
Kind regards.
