Frustrated ex-kodi user with episodes/seasons not showing up.

I’ve used kodi since before it’s name change on the original xbox and have kept up with it until recently switching to plex. I have used tinymediamanager to manage my movie and tv collection. everything is separated, I’ve followed tutorials yet get super frustrated when random episodes and entire seasons won’t show up. I’ve tried the xbmc scraper to read my nfo’s (no luck). deleted, emptied trash and tried thetvdb scraper to see if it will find it (found missing episode of season 4), but season 5 will not show up! Everything worked fine with kodi. I have structure as follows F:\TVSHOWS\TVSHOWNAME\SEASON XX vshowname - Sxx-Exx.ext and it skips over season 5! I have no clue why this is happening and sort of wishing I hadn’t left kodi except plex works with chromecast.

Please help!

have you checked permissions?
depending on what system you use, Plex should create an own user (“plex”) which needs to have read/write access to your media.

if it’s an issue with the agent, you should at least get the episode displayed (just not with it’s name, but plainly as e.g. “Episode 29”).

Look at your Sxx-Exx. This is incorrect. SxxExx (no punctuation or spaces)

no punctuation or spaces
. at least is working (Sxx.Eyy)… I had to include this while I still was using Synology’s video station in parallel using the same files

Perhaps Video Station does that but not PMS.

Please take a moment and read what PMS is expecting.

I’m not saying it’s according to PMS naming conventions… just telling you it’s working despite violating them – so in a way I consider myself lucky for the reminder and will clean this up at some point before things actually break during a library update.

Wow! Cool trick! Thank you!

important to note. . is a regular expression metacharacter and - isn’t. The scanner looks for - to separate fields. . matches any character and is invisible in this context.

I consider - is also tricky as PMS expects it for multi-episode files.
so coming back @jamespipes – get rid of the - between S and E. however… as those other episodes did show up: did you find anything on the permissions side? Everything named according the same schema but only some folders not showing up sounds fishy and hints there might be something wrong with the permissions of this 1 folder

Yes, As I first posted, removing the - is the answer here.

It may be necessary to move Season 5 to some place PMS doesn’t monitor, Scan the library, Empty the Trash, Clean bundles, and then move back (the Plex Dance) to get it recognized properly again.

To clarify, I had S05xE01 not - I misstyped that. The x was what was causing the problem. Thanks @ChuckPA After fixing as advised it found all seasons.

Whew
Thanks for all your help!
