Gapless Playback on Plex Media Player 1.2.0 (Windows)

Do any of the developers even use their own product to listen to music? Without gapless playback Plex is pretty much useless to any serious music lover.

Odd. I’m seeing gapless playback in the iOS iPhone client, both with remote and synced content.

not so for android

Exactly, totally agree canĀ“t understand why not itĀ“s implemented also in the android app… anyone?

Still no gapless playback for Windows and Android.

I am working on the transition from windows media center (server + 4 extenders) and squeezebox (logitech media server with 7 receivers and radios) into a single tool using HDhomerun, chromecast and Fire TV as HW interfaces. I decided to give Plex a try and spend last weekend to set things up. Overall, I’m impressed by Plex. Setup was pretty easy and except some known issues related to simultaneous live TV & DRV, I’m pretty happy. The software handles 10+ tablets with players and countless streams to whatever HW out there without a glitch, which makes me feel confident that their developers can pretty much implement anything if it is high enough on their to do list.

Speaking of which - gapless music is a desperately missing feature. I would be glad if you could provide a beta release of just plain NON transcoded ā€œas isā€ track after track gapless stream to get things moving. No mixing needed - nothing fancy - just no gap please!

I highly encourage the developers to bump up that feature request. Please, provide us with a Christmas gift of that being available on Android - even though I know your founders came from the desire to bring XBMC (Kodi) to Apple

Keep up the great work!

Would really like this to be implemented on android… Feel like I’ve wasted money on the app now.

no money until you add gapless

Not implemented yet, but it’s on our list.

How is your list coming along now?

I have been using my iPhone and iPad to run Plex and using AirPlay to one of my receivers and voila, last week noticed that it is playing gapless tracks. Tested it out on Abbey Road, Beck’s Morning Phase and a few Moody Blues albums. This holds true for playing an album or a playlist. I haven’t seen an announcement from Plex on this. Did I miss it??? I loaded up AirScreen on my Shield and I was able to cast music from my iOS devices to the shield without gaps. Yea, after all these years!!! For some reason my iPhone X is breaking up, whereas the iPad is just fine, but that must be a device depend iOS problem.

Will PLEX please respond to this?

I am not yet seeing gapless playback for synced or remote content for iOS (iPhone 6S / app version 4.21). Just added a tracked live recording with some tricky transitions between songs and I can definitely hear the gap between tracks (even for synced content), although it seems subtler than I remember. In any case, the same tracks play back gapless in Foobar without crossfade, so I’d say we’re not quite there yet.

Another vote for Gapless playback please, I have loads of compilation mixes and it’s annoying when there’s gaps.

Keep up the good work Plex dev!

Honest to God Y’all!
Do you not have a single Pink Floyd fan on your staff?
I love Plex but HATE the fact we cannot listen to music the way the artist intended it to be played.
Its been YEARS of people asking for this feature and its such a simple thing to do!
Tried to listen to Dark Side Of The Moon last night and could not get past it.
Keep up the great work, but for the love of God, listen to the feedback and spend 15 minutes and add the feature.

Another vote for gapless playback. I love Plex for all my video needs, and its music implementation is, for the most part, first class. But until gapless playback is implemented I’m stuck using the far inferior Subsonic. The feature is that important to me, and clearly I’m not the only one.

This shouldn’t be that hard to implement – just create a cache that the next 2-3 songs can download to, so it can play directly once the current track is over. Seems like an easy win.

This. Listening to Pink Floyd (or any other artist that makes progressive rock/music) is impossible. My Pink Floyd collection is basically a waste of storage until this gets fixed.

I agree with the gapless requests. Plex is by far my most used app ever. I use it in my office, in my car, and in my home movie theater constantly. Eliminating pauses between tracks would be a HUGE step forward for music lovers like myself. I’ve been waiting years for the Plex gapless audio feature to be implemented, and really hope it will become a reality (and big success) soon!

I have both apps in the computer (Plexamp and the Plex application). When I use Plexamp it uses more RAM. I use an external drive to store the media and I notice that when I play music it reads the new song 15 seconds before the music ends and it can play it gapless without any problem. But when I use the Windows Plex app (or any other app like on my android), it uses less RAM. When I play music it does not wake the drive until the song ends and then read the next song. This create a gap of 1 or 2 seconds.

Plus 1 for gapless.

Everyone who wants gapless playback; vote! There’s over 750 requests, let’s push it to the top of the list.

This is a sorely needed feature, considering I just ripped my entire library specifically to use Plex. VERY frustrated when I realized no gapless playback from Android apps.
