Garbled video after updating to 1.18(.4.2171)

Server Version#: 1.18.4.2171
Player Version#: ANY/ALL (Windows client, HTTPS, Roku, Android)
DSM 6.2.2-24922 on DS 1019+, Hardware transcoding is turned on.

The issue is garbled video, audio is fine. If I play the file directly from the NAS, I have no issues. It seems to be happening with higher resolution MKVs. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

SSH into the Syno.

as root:

rm "/var/packages/Plex Media Server/target/lib/dri/iHD_drv_video.so"

Restart PMS

this will address part of it

Subtitles are still a problem

Thank you! Resolved the issue and subtitles seem to work fine as well. Cheers!

Hello, I’ve also updated to 1.18.4.2171 (DSM 6.2.2-24922 Update 4) and after the update videos can’t be played with subtitles on (audio is fine though), but as soon as I disable subtitles it will play as normal…I’ve tried to remove the iHD_drv_video.so file, without any success (movies won’t even start after removal). What is going on, is there any update for this issue in progress??? Everything worked very fine before update…very annoying :frowning:

As a fall back,

  1. Uninstall PMS
  2. Download and install from Package Center.

This will give you 1.16.6 which predates the issues of 1.17.0 and above.
It will suffer from the known throttling problems as before with the i965 but, for most, the is infinitely better than as it is now.

MANY thanks ChuckPA, this solved all my problems!!
(never thought I could downgrade to an earlier version in this easy way)
All the best!

On Synology (as well as on the main desktop Linux app), you can uninstall the package and reinstall any version you wish.

The only caveats

  1. Don’t “–purge” (debian distros)
  2. Wait 60 seconds after starting for the database to readjust.
  3. Don’t jump too far. Some database changes cannot be regressed.
