General Hospital - Inconsistent DVR Actions

Tuner Make/Model: HD HomeRun Quattro
Guide/Lineup name: General Hospital
Using XMLTV?:
Channel number/Name: ABC 40.1

I have an inconsistent problem recording my wife’s dearly-loved General Hospital. Most of the time it records fine, but on seemingly random days it does not, despite it showing up in the guide as “NEW”, and even having the red icon on it indicating it will record. I’ve got it set to record all episodes, new and repeat, and I’m even limiting it to a specific channel (we get two different ABC stations). It’s even set for partial recordings in case of signal issues.

But it’s not signal, as it’s not showing that it will record tomorrow or Wednesday. But Thursday it will. So despite all those settings, and despite it showing as “NEW”, and despite for example tomorrow’s and Wednesday’s episodes showing the red “to be recorded” icon, it is not showing up on the DVR Schedule page as to be recorded tomorrow. I can’t even add those two individiaully, as Plex shows them to be recorded as part of the series.

I’m at my wit’s end. I’m trying to convince my wife to let me drop cable but this one stupid problem is stopping that from happening, because we simply can’t tolerate random misses of a TV that we’ve been watching for going on 40 years.

Can someone help? Are there any logs I can provide to assist? Is there a workaround? Tune in tomorrow to find out! - GA

Nothing, huh? That’s disappointing.

It all revolves around the EPG data, it can say NEW but if you have a file on disk with the same SXXEXX number it won’t record. And NEW is relative, it might be NEW for that station but it previously aired on another so it isn’t truly NEW. The NEW and repeats should take care of this as long as the file doesn’t exist.

Red dot just means that you have a scheduled recording, not that it will record.

Use another guide like TitanTV to compare the episode numbers with what Plex has listed, EPG inaccuracies can be reported just include the zip code.

Thank you for the response. I can confirm that there was an E197 recorded to the server last Thursday, and today’s episode is also listed as E197. I only keep 5 episodes, and I will change the settings to immediately delete after watching, so this may help.

Is it possible to change the EPG for just this one series? i generally have good results with other TV series (though I have had to make manual file name updates for SXXEXX on PBS series like NOVA and American Experience). Where is that managed?

Thanks again.

Change the EPG in what way? Looking at the Episode list, NEW episodes are currently shown on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays with repeats on Tuesdays and Thursdays but the local station can modify this at their discretion.

As a fallback you can always stream the episode from ABC.com or Hulu.

My wife assures me that each day is a new episode. I don’t know, I don’t watch it. I just want the household complaints to stop.
