I just went through every libery/Folder on my server in Plex (server)
And if I disable all the settings under “Recommended”, the content gets unavailable when I switch view from “Libery/Folder” to “Recommended”.
AND it is not possible to get it back unless I change the server setting to make sure that there are content in the recommended section.
Please make it possible to disable it permanently
AND
If a Plex Admin writes that it will not be done; Do it with a good technical or business reason so we as PAYING USERS will be able to understand your reasoning. Most paying users have a reasonable ability to undestand code or business or both.
As already mentioned in the existing closed feature request this is not going to happen. I’m going to leave this open but again there are no plans to do this sorry.
Then any chance of fixing the glitch in the thread I linked where you can’t switch to library view if there are no recommendation options turned on and no continue watching entries for a library? Currently it makes the library content inaccessible.
that is being looked into now as far as I am aware. I can’t find the topic at the moment but I believe the issue was with the Fire TV app which is just waiting on Amazon to approve the app update to 8.16
In that link I posted there’s also an issue with the windows and web app’s Home Screen, where it shows nothing even though there are continue watching items in some libraries.
Thanks - ideally it could fall back to default to library view if there were no continue watching items (and no recommendations) but even just allowing the user to toggle to library view when there are none of those items would be better than having to either:
Go and turn on a recommended item at the server level, navigate to the library on the client and switch to library view (then disable the recommended item again)
Play an item in each library on another client that already has library mode selected - this is only a temporary fix as you can’t always guarantee there will be continue watching items forever
I’m not personally against having it go to the library tab if nothing in recommeneded tab. I know another employee brought that up as well. I can’t make any promises.
I want to ask this only because I want to understand and pass it along to other folks. I don’t mean to make any judgment about you not liking the recommended tab or home screen rows
I don’t know how many movies you have but let’s say like 10,000. The users you share with have had access for a long while and know all the movies you have. Then in 2022 you add Zoolander 3: Return to the Runway ( just a made up movie) Why force your users to scroll through 10,000 movies rather than letting them see what new things you Recently added on home screen or recommended tab of library?
For other users, I only share with a few family members, and they are only accessing old movies and shows I’ve had forever and don’t update. For those family members, if they just see recommended after I first share with them, they have no idea that I have more than just what is in the recommended views, and I have to handhold them switching to library view in every single library.
So it’s actually the opposite problem you describe… as it stands now they don’t see that I have hundreds of movies and have an easy way to scroll through them by default, they think the entirety of my content is what is in the recommended view…
The only libraries that get updated are an anime series and movie library, and the only time I add content is when I buy a series or movie on Blu-ray, and I tell that user ‘hey I just spent $100 on this series and imported it in’.
Reason number one is for myself, not other users. We have 6 devices in the house with Plex logged in as me, and any time I need to redeploy the plex app in whatever flavor, I have to go through and switch every library over to library view.
If unchecking recommended for each library would default it to library view, it would solve all of the above problems I described, and continue watching would still be on the Home Screen, which in my mind is where it belongs, not on the individual library recommendation screens.
I am glad you choose to clarify that you wording gave me the wrong impression of your view. Thanks.
I see your point on the number of movies and sharing. But for those that I share to, and my number of movies as well as that it is my server and I choose what to share. It is not only overkill, but also annoying.
Had the developers called it filtered view and giving it the possibility of a personal view list, it would have been a lot more useful.
It has been 2 years, and this is still an issue. If you uncheck everything, there is a “Something Wrong” error.
I have 0 use for Recommended. I know what movies I have. I don’t need YOUR recommendation algorithm. We use 1 login for all TVs in the house, and we don’t share with anyone.
We use Plex as a media server. Which it is great at. But all the Recommendation, Tidal, LiveTV, Explore, etc. Is all unpinned or disabled if possible.
We really need an option to disabled Recommended. Or hide the Home section if you disable everything in Manage Recommendations. make it hard to do.
I assume you guys make money or get some kind of kickbacks for what you recommend, but I paid for a software to do media streaming of my personal collection, and not allowing me some way to disable it, even if convoluted (hell make it some obscure config entry in some XML file, so only the super savvy can change it, and then those people you already aren’t making money off of can turn it off), feels very condescending.
Which app are you using? This was fixed a long while ago. I just tried in a number of clients and it works as expected going to a zero state and the top tabs on Android do not disappear anymore.
I’m not sure if you use public or beta updates but there have been a few since then and though i have not seen issue in a long while there were some hub related fixes recently.
I’m not sure how well-known it is (and I don’t remember if it was a think when this thread was originally started), but there are now ways you can make the home screen and library recommended tabs work for you. Smart collections can now be set to be shown as hubs on the home screen, library recommended, and friends’ home screen.
You could, for example, create a smart collection which included all of your movies, sorted descending by date added, and have that be the only thing which shows. Or use some other sort criteria. You can do the same for TV series. Or music. That is, you can fully customize what is shown in these areas now.
I understand that it’s not what is being asked for; but in absence of a way to completely remove these screens/tabs, making them function in a manner over which you have more-or-less full control seems preferable. Maybe play around with it to see if it helps.
New user getting into plex. I hate the recommend tab. At least in its current form. For example: for TV, I feel having unwatched is a key area versus recently added. Maybe adding a way to control the ordering and sections?
