Getting content onto my QNAP NAS

Server Version#: 4.5.2.1594
Player Version#:1.28.0

This is such a newbee question I am sure, but I cant find the “Dummy” version of these steps.

I have PMS installed on my QNAP - acting like a NAS. I have a plex pass.
I want to download movies from Plex for offline use - and add them to my PMS on the QNAP.

Do I need to install PMS for Windows on my PC (Intel NUC - I7), then download the movies from Plex to that. Then later transfer the library from PC to QNAP.

If yes, how do I do the transfer?
Is there any easier way to do this?

I’m not really sure what this means. If they are already in your PMS why would you download them from it, then to re-add them to the same PMS?

The short of it is you need to make folders on your NAS for each media type. They can be sub folders of one main “media” folder ( can be called whatever)

To actually get the files on the NAS has nothing to do with PMS at all. On the NAS the Media folder above need to be share and the you can access those folders from your computer. Then you can drag and drop media files from your computer to it.

I suggest in reading through Qnap faq.....read me first! Question 14 and the links in it should be of help.

When you create a library in PMS you tell it which folder those are in. If the PMS is on the NAS it will navigate through folders PMS can see on the NAS.

Thanks for the links.

I have nothing on the NAS or PMS at this stage.

There were really two questions:

Do I need PMS for Windows installed on my PC to download Plex movies for offline use? The option to download content is not showing and I do not have PMS installed on my PC so am assuming that its needed to do so.

Then my next question was - once I have downloaded a movie from the Plex site - how do I get into onto my NAS. You have explained that now.

You can’t download the free streaming movies we offer if that is what you are trying to do. Those are ad supported and only available for streaming.

Downloading for offline is when you have your own media files on your NAS with PMS and you want to copy some to the Plex app on your phone so you can listen to your music for example when you are on a train and have no cell signal. ( or just don’t want to use your home internet bandwidth for streaming remotely from your server)
