Hi there,
The installed version of PLEX I have is 1.13.4.5271-200287a06, and Synology’s package center doesn’t show any other versions available for install. How do I get the latest update?

I have had to do a manual install ever since moving from MAC to Synology NAS. Not a big deal though. You have to first download the current version and then in the package center do a Manual Install. If you never did this you may need to uninstall and re-install. But the first update I noticed in PLEX (on Synology) just downloaded it to my download folder. Then in Package center I did a manual update and pointed to the download file and it updated with no problem.
Synology “marches to the beat of their own drum”.
We are working on creating our own Repo and resolving all the problems we’ve had with keeping updates timely in theirs as well as getting 64 bit versions in that repo (they only provide the 32 bit)

Thanks for the reply! I didn’t realize that I needed to get the version from outside of plex. Do you know if I need a 32, or 64bit install? I wasn’t sure if you were saying that Synology only supports 32bit, or they only have the 32 bit version on them?
Also, are there any challenges or random things you might think I should be aware of before I try to install the newer versions over my current version?
Steve,
All Plex updates come from Plex. Synology is not a recommended source at this time.
You will need the 64 bit version (which Synology doesn’t provide) to perform the manual update.
This is a restriction introduced by Synology in DSM 6.2 on all 64 bit platforms. (no 32 bit apps on 64 bit platforms)
Because of how I store your metadata, You are free to upgrade / downgrade the software independent of your metadata. It is preserved even if you uninstall (this is why the Plex share exists).
Normal procedure is to install on top of the existing.
I did not install from the Synology Package Center when I first installed Plex because I watched a Youtube video that said the Package Version was outdated. So I download from plex.tv site. I assume I downloaded the 64bit version since I am running a 64bit version NAS.
There is currently a new version but my Plex is saying my version is current. So not sure what to think about that.
While checking for current version on plex.tx I found this. I needed to do this when installing Empy recently. Not sure if it is helpful or not.
