How to automatically update the Plex Media Server version on NAS Synology?

Plex Media Server version : 1.14.0.2470 (Plex Media Server version)
Synology DSM version : 6.2.1-23824

Hello everyone,

I would like to know if you had an idea on how to configure my NAS / Plex in order to have the Plex Media Server versions automatically updated ? Indeed, I execute them manually at each new version, as soon as I notice a new one, but it is quite redundant. I did the last one on the 16th, we are today the 19th and there is already a new version.

Subsidiary question : how to make sure the automatic update doesn’t start while I’m watching a movie ? For example, is there a mean to say like "Only do the automatic update at 4 a.m. ?

I thank you in advance for your precious help,

Merry Christmas in advance,

Pierre

Don’t mean to put a lump of coal in your stocking, but auto updates are not possible.

For some reason, Synology will only post the 32-bit version of PMS to the package center. Also, they changed policies and won’t let 32-bit apps run on NASs with 64-bit CPUs. This essentially breaks the auto-update mechanism via Package Center.

Plex is working with Synology to remedy the situation, but it seems Synology is being a Grinch and dragging their feet.

There was a bunch of traffic about this a few months ago, when Synology made the change WRT 32-bit apps. The posts were all along the lines of “why can’t I update from the Package Center anymore…”

In the meantime, the only way to update PMS is to download the file from plex.tv and manually update the NAS.

Not the news you wanted, but hope you still have a Merry Christmas.:christmas_tree::santa:

Hello FordGuy61, hello Trumpy 81,

Thank you both for your quick answers ! As you said FordGuy61, it’s probably not the answer I would have like to read, but anyway, that was just a “nice to have”.

Have a great evening,

Pierre
