Getting started, putting folders in library

Hi,
I have installed Plex on a WD My Home Cloud. It supposedly comes pre-configured. I am a paid subscriber.
During installation at no point did it invite me to point to a folder to find my media files. Nor can I find any way of doing so.
At the moment I have zilch.
I’m using Win 10 pro, all my software and kit is brand new.
Help? Please.

On left panel click more

at the top, next to your server name (move your mouse over your server name) there’s a plus sign to add a library…

The WD MyCloud Home devices are running on Android and are locked-down (by request of WD), so that the user can only use the pre-defined libraries and their existing folder connections.

Oh, that’s handy information…

That is good to know…

I have a pair of WD My Book 8TB (NTFS) that are very happy playing the role of Storage (showing up as Drive Letters to be aimed at - as they do), but I’m not trying to run a Plex Server on them.

I can create a library but not point it at my folders.
Now, I note what you say about ‘configured’ folders. I am unaware of these, I will have to look.
I will say that I’m not at all happy with my ‘My Home Cloud’ it seems full of restrictions. I just wanted a storage server.

That’s because it is full of restrictions… You’re better off using it as a DAS (Direct Attached Storage) than as a standalone thing to be honest… It doesn’t really have a processor powerful enough to do much of anything…

The My Books probably have even less - but as Storage, they shine brightly:
Blazing fast, Silent, Cool, Reliable, On 24/7, spun up and ready to go.

Thanks for that info.
I have looked at the WD device, I see no way of configuring any media folders apart from photos.
I think I read something about dropping files into a Plex folder? Is that what I am supposed to do?
I have spent years trying to sort out a decent media server. Everything seems to fail. I could even create a dedicated PC to the effort. IF only I knew how.

Install the Plex Server on the PC - aim it at Library Folders in Storage.
It really is that simple. <—using the 2 WD My Books I have - along with the other 4 WD HDDs inside the PC (AMD-FX 8350) running the Plex Server (and all my games, work, play, etc).

The C drive is the Windows 10 OS, of course, where Plex is installed. The ‘F’ Drive contains Plex’s database. Everything else has some media on it and Plex is aimed at all of it. ‘I’ and ‘J’ are the two WD My Books. ‘D’ and ‘G’ are brand new WD Reds, 4TB and 6TB respectively. (they are sweet!)

looks like yes its under the Plex folder.

move your content to these predefined locations per media type.
