Gmail account cancelled, password forgotten, and impossible to associate my NAS to another account

Server Version#:
Player Version#:

Good evening,

I have the app Plex Media Server in my Synology DS220+ installed, however, when I first configured it I used a gmail institutional account which was cancelled. The problem is that I forgot the password of that account, and therefore, I cannot link my NAS to another gmail account.

Best regards,
Mario

You need to unclaim the server, then re-claim it with the desired account.

Which Plex Media Server version? - 1.29, 1.30, etc (not 4.x)
Look in Synology Package Center, Installed Version.

Is the Synology running DSM 6 or DSM 7?

Can you still login with the old account and access the server settings?

Settings → Server_Name → General?

You’ll see “server signed in as” with your old e-mail address.

There are several ways to accomplish this.

Option 1: The Always Works Brute Force Method

See Why am I locked out of Server Settings and how do I get in?

  1. Stop Plex Media Server
  2. Navigate to the Plex Data Folder
  3. Edit Preferences.xml, remove the entries mentioned in the support document.
  4. Start Plex Media Server
  5. Go to http://syno_ip_address:32400/web (use the actual IP address of your NAS).
  6. Login using the desired Plex account and claim the server.
Skip any screens about setting up new libraries.

Option 2: Synology running DSM 7 - uninstall/re-install

Using Synology Package Manager

  1. Uninstall Plex Media Server, using the Uninstall Only (first) option.
  2. Re-install the same version, using the Plex Claim Token option.

The installation will lead you through obtaining and using a claim token to claim the Plex server.

Option 3: Log Out / Log In

You must be able to login using the old Plex account.

  1. Login to the server using the old account.
  2. Navigate to Settings → Server_Name → General
You’ll see “Server Signed In As old_e-mail_address”
  3. Sign Out of the server.
  4. Sign out of the old Plex account
Upper right corner, click on user symbol, choose Sign Out from drop down menu.
  5. Quit the browser (close all windows).

The server is now in an unclaimed state. To claim.

  1. Launch a browser and point it at the IP address of the NAS: http://syno_ip_address:32400/web.
For example, if the NAS address is 10.1.2.3, use http://10.1.2.3:32400/web.
  2. Login with the desired Plex account.
  3. Skip any screens about setting up libraries
  4. Claim the server.
