Very rarely have I ever given up on a new release of any product, but I’ve just had to uninstall the new Windows player and reinstall the old Media Player. For all the reasons listed out by many people in these forums. It’s just a massive step in the wrong direction.
Tried the new PMP and stutters like every 2 seconds, i5 2310 CPU Nvidia GT 710 gpu, I did try while on lan, old PMP works like a charm no problems there, I hope they fix the new PMP otherwise I’ll just keep using the old one
Sounds like user error.
Please do try version 1.3. Has it improved for you?
I admit that I’m greatly confused at the moment. When it’s said that you’ve moved away from HTPC usage, is that why the TV button to full screen interface has gone? Because that’s what my family (totally non technical) is used to and likes. They just look at the standard interface and ask me to buy a TV.
@lowwhistler I think we can clear up things for you, sir.
For a very long time there was Plex Media Server and Plex Media Player.
With so many devices acting as players, Roku, AppleTV, Android, etc., and for various other reasons, Plex decided to create another unified player from scratch called Plex for Windows or Plex for Mac, which on your computer is just named Plex.
So there’s now PMP and Plex, the two players.
- PMP is mature and rather stable. It has a ton of features like passthru, TV Mode, custom key binds, access to mpv.conf and advanced av filters.
- Plex is newer and I’m sure beautiful on the inside, but it’s also young, growing, and lacks most of the advanced behinds the scene features you may want. It lacks TV Mode.
So that’s the answer to your particular situation, just find the latest PMP. I’m currently on
Plex Media Player version: 2.41.0.1010
and when you get it running, you’ll have TV Mode for all.
However, it would be really nice if you also tried out the new Plex-1.3.0 released today.
The kind Mattseeley is looking forward to hearing how smoothly it works.
Thanks for that. So will development continue with PMP, or is that deprecated with the new player?
The PMP Release Announcement thread has links to download the latest version.

thanks for the reply, tried the version 1.3.0.910-77ef46d6 with hardware decode off and on still happens the same, the file direct plays from my server on my home network(actually tried several different episodes from different series with subtitles and without subtitles), media player classic home cinema and old plex media player have no problems, I have no problems with another pc that has an intel 7700 cpu
Dude, seriously why is the new plex app so slow?
It’s as if it wants to use all the resources you have and just suffers all the while.
If you’re experiencing odd behavior, it’s customary to quantify that.
Mr. Spock has approved this message.
i have in multiple threads with videos included.
no response
the new player sucks… no support for tv display or remote like harmony 950…
no SUPPORT FOR PASSTHROUGHT AUDIO REALLY?
much better pmp …
@dannymichel We’ve suggested, and I mean me and a few moderators, that you continue to use PMP, because it’s mature. We’ve explained Plex for Mac is new and undergoing rapid development.
But you continue to post about Plex for Mac.
That’s nice. So you disregard our suggestions, and want to be like a software tester. Okay. We need more of those around here. So I encouraged you to quantify that. And did you? Let’s see.
Right on. Make me dig for them rather than quantify anything? Okay, I’m down. I will start reading all your wonderful posts, because that’s fun. Here’s what I saw in your profile sir.
In your subjective thread about colors, Darcilicious replied to you, but you don’t answer any of her questions. No samples, no logs, no details about your player hardware, server hardware, network config, or any comment on how it’s worked for you over the years, proof of what you saw, and what you expected to see.
In another subjective post on choppy scrolling, you provided again no details at all about your setup. I forgot to ask you and instead opted to explain that there are two players in order to save time trying to elucidate any facts from you.
In another topic about choppy scrolling in Plex-1.2.0 for Mac, you did give us your player and server version. You then linked to a thread with an mp4, but it’s a thread about PMP. Great, now you’re mixing players and issues.
So I just played your MP4 because I’m a decent human being, and it shows PMP in Desktop mode where you opted-in to The Preview Experience, you’ve collapsed the sidebar, you’re not in full screen, you have activity on your dashboard, and you’ve managed to size your window such that parts of every poster are cut off. I can’t reproduce that on my Mac using PMP-2.42.0.1013. It never cuts off the posters, and it always resizes the them as needed to avoid that.. and its scrolls very smoothly.
Did I miss any others? nvm. I’m not going to bother you any more.
I’m sorry if I came off as “that guy”. I’m not into “that guy”.
I’d love to alpha/beta test.
