A friend of mine who has been a free member for a long time has recently received an email offer to get a lifetime membership for just $74.99.
I’ve been a pass member on the monthly plan since March 2015 and I cant use the discount offer. It seems unfair you award loyal free users but not loyal pass members at the same time, don’t you think?
I REALLY doubt that Plex has made such an offer to anyone. I believe the email your friend received was some kind of scam or at best a simple misinterpretation.
If it were to happen it would be a colossal mistake on Plex’s part and would violate numerous statements or assurances that Plex has made about ever having “special” pricing on their lifetime subscription.
What would Plex gain that could possibly offset the negatives that would be generated by a move like mentioned that would even remotely offset the negatives that it would generate?
I’ve seen other forum threads about this in the past. It doesn’t make a lot of sense to me either. But with the several sightings it seems to be a real thing.
I’m pretty sure the thought is, that a long-time free user may not normally pay a plex pass subscription and this might entice them. Hard to see the fairness in that thought process for those that pay monthly fees. In my business you reward those who are already paying you over the people who don’t. But I’m also not privy to their behind-the-scenes nor can I confirm that these half off promos for free users truly exist.
I’m a full price lifetime paying member and I like the value I received for $150. Sometimes it’s easier to just worry about the value you are receiving than to try to and compare to everyone else.
Plex has been offering, through emails, discount offers for the Lifetime Pass for a while now. These offered have gone out to current monthly or yearly subscribes as well as long time users of the free version.
What the exact algorithm used to determine which users get the email is unknown to me though.
As a member who has a monthly pass, if I received an email offering me a half off for a lifetime pass, I would take them up on it. Finding $75, is a lot easier than finding $140.
Also, I enjoy Plex so much, I would go out of my way to find the $75. Unfortunately, $140 is a little steep for my pocket book.

If you can find $75 in one month, then you can find $150 in 2 or 3 months.
With the math and budgeting skills some who post about this subject seem to have, it is amazing that their real bills ever get paid.

Wow. Troll much?
Considering you don’t live in my life, nor live in my location, you have no idea what it’s like here. I would suggest keeping an opinion as vile and ill informed as that one, to yourself.
Perhaps that was a little harsh.
It’s obvious you do not understand the circumstances of those who have very limited budgets.
While I might be able to sell a 2nd hand laptop to cover the cost of of $75, I don’t have anything I could sell to cover the cost of $140.
Work only pays just enough to get by, and finding the extra money for a lifetime pass would be extremely difficult. I live in the lowest income part of my country, and am self employed. I make barely more than a government pension. I also have a family to support, and if you know anything about kids, you’ll know that they’re massive sink holes for money.
I’m not looking for sympathy, but a little understanding would go a long way before you judge.
Ah-hahahha!!! Struck a nerve, didn’t I? Truth hurts, doesn’t it?
I don’t need to “live in your life” or “know what it is like here”. You have no idea what my life was like. If you can’t afford $75 for two months then you can’t afford $75 for one month.
Take this from someone who literally could not afford to buy food at one point in his life and now buys new cars for cash and paid off his mortgage 8 years early 5 years ago - learn how money works or you will always be poor.
So, you see, it was as not “ill informed” as you think. I was poor. I am not now.
(BTW, if you think that was “vile”, I suggest you go find your local “safe place” and never leave.)

Not feeding the trolls.
See, that is the problem with people like you. You have no answer since you know I am right so you immediately attack people or call people names.
Why don’t you think about what I said and try and refute it? Because you can’t or you realize I am right and you can’t stand to be wrong.
Have a nice life, if you can.
Please, refrain from name calling and be nice to each other. It isn’t necessary at all to stoop to this level. I’ve notified the Sheriff about this thread so heed the warning, thanks.
The deal is a real thing. I’ve had it long enough to warrant paying for life and it would be cheaper than continuing to pay monthly before summer 2017. For me it’s principal, I’ve been paying monthly for over a year and half contributing like the rest of us members, we are rewarded with ever increasing quality of content which is great. But don’t we have just as much right to being offered a deal?
The thing that attracts me to Plex is that it is an alternative to the cable and satellite companies of the world that monopolize their networks then only offer the deals to newly on boarding customers. Plex doing this is a worrying step towards that philosophy which does not reward loyalty but instead prays on it.
FYI Peter, the problem isn’t with the thread here, before them two got a bit feisty it was doing just fine as a general discussion.
I too am a yearly member. Just yesterday PayPal informed me that I had approved a payment to Plex… for my automatic annual renewal. Had I been given a chance to upgrade to Lifetime at $75, I would have taken it instead.
Haven’t been here on the forums much lately, nor spent much time with Plex… priorities are keeping me busy elsewhere.
Still… I would have jumped on the upgrade. Just can’t swallow the $150.
I can confirm this as well. I am a monthly user and received nothing, however my girlfriend, who has been a member for the same time as myself, got it. But she is a free user, invited to my Plex Pass home.
Not saying that’s bad or anything, just confirming. I was a bit surprised about it though.
