Plex Screwing Existing Customers

So not sure how many current Plex Pass Subscribers know this, but Plex ran a promotion of lifetime access this past weekend for $89.99. Being on the monthly plan for multiple years now, I thought what a great deal, why not. But I quickly learned they were only offering this to new users. For me, they gladly tried to charge me the full rate of $119.99. I reached out to billing, the second time asking for management to review. Basically got the same, form response which in summary says, nope, won’t give you the offer, don’t know if we ever will, but make sure I am signed up for their newsletter.

Well, I have cancelled my monthly subscription and looking elsewhere. I get they are trying to bring in new customers, but pissing off the ones that have been loyal for so long isn’t too smart. Time for me to look at other options. I encourage others to do the same because Plex doesn’t care.

Lighten up, Francis.

From time to time PLEX offers special promotions for lifetime PLEX Passes for next to nothing. That’s how I bought mine and I wasn’t a new customer. If you want a PLEX pass and don’t want to spend much, read your PLEX emails and look for a promotional rate.

I do read my emails and in the years I have been a subscriber, have never seen a single discount. When did you get this discount? How much was saved?

Are they selectively sending out these discount emails too and purposely skipping over certain users?

Like plex really wants to go out of its way to skip over anyone. Seriously?
If it is any of your business, I paid $74.99 in November 2018. Keeping in mind I was not a subscriber previously because I knew they ran specials from time to time.

Never got offered that rate. But I was a subscriber at that time so they must have done the same thing where they offered to new people only. I guess the lesson here is don’t bother supporting Plex with any of their other subscription plans. I was a sucker for giving them $4.99 a month for the last few years.

Not everyone got it all at once, they systematically go through their subscriber base and offer it. I have no idea what criteria they use, or how it’s done. It could be 100% random, it could have criteria to it, but there are dozens of users in this forum who have gotten the same offer. It’s a matter of patience…

They didn’t offer it to “New People Only” so, therefore, they did not do the same thing…

No, you were a patron, who bought their services for a particular price that you were happy with at the time. If a 2018 Ford Mustang was $28,000.00 and you bought it at that price, and then a 2019 Ford Mustang (which had 0 changes done to it) came out and was only $25,000.00, which resulted in a lower payment, do you then think that Ford should give you a break on your payments? You couldn’t possibly trade it back in because you’d be upside down on your loan at that point resulting in an overall higher payment, so how do you think this should be handled?

Now, what if you learned that Ford was giving existing customers a chance at getting a 2020 Mustang at 33% off and they would forgive the remainder of the loan on the 2018 Mustang you bought? Is that something that might interest you? If so, stick around and monitor your e-mail as tramp suggested. Also, make sure it’s not going to your spam box.

Yes they did offer to new members. only. I also tried to lock into a lifetime subscription at the promo rate and was denied. I currently pay annually and would have been willing to forgo the couple prepaid months left on my account to lock in for life. I have a response from Plex also stating it is for new members only. How does it make sense to deny an existing annual subscriber who is willing to commit to a lifetime contract? Hopefully they will have a similar or better promo for loyal subscribers. This is the same type of marketing that telephone, internet and cable companies do. Then, every year I have to call and talk to the “customer loyalty department” to negotiate a better deal. Why not just treat existing customers equally?

It’s the age old argument that cable customers make all the time. New customers get offered introductory rates, while the loyal ones continue to pay higher prices. Every once in a blue moon you can get away with a temporary discount if you threaten to leave, but more often than not, you’re left feeling treated like a second class citizen for dutifully paying your inflated bill.

Happens everywhere. Plex isn’t any different.

Agreed. I call my internet and satellite provider and grovel every year for the same deal new subs get. They always give me the deal but it is frustrating to always have to jump through the hoops and spend 45 minutes on the phone. They count on current customers not bothering to do this which is pretty sleazy IMO. I know people who will switch every other year but usually if you press your existing provider will not risk losing you. I am hoping to see a Boxing Day promo from Plex this week.

You need to read the context, we were referring to the OTHER discount… Not the new one which is obviously for new members…

My bad. Interestingly, I just received an email offer from my present internet provider to renew my contract at the new lower rate presently offered to new accounts. Same price and they upgrade me from 150gbps to 300gbps with unlimited data. No need to grovel. Plex are you reading this? That is called customer loyalty.

pretty sure you mean mbps and not gbps… But that’s a nice offer… If the US could only get on board with the rest of the world in terms of Internet connectivity, things would be peachy

Edit: Also, Plex HAS been doing that. They have sent numerous people a discount on Life Time Plex Pass. Life Time for $74.99, people just need to be patient and keep an eye on their e-mails. That’s what I and tramp were talking about…

Thanks. Just tested download at 318 and upload at 308. Love fibre! Hope I get the Plex offer. I’ll definitely jump at it.

Yeah, I am on Gigabit Full Duplex/Synchronous Fiber. Just waiting for them to launch 10Gbit here…

I had gigabit fiber but could not get full utilization of it because most paths don’t support it.
So I dropped it back to 100/100…

This is a matter of where you are, what you’re doing, and whether or not it’s necessary for your use case… It’s very relevant for my use case… Moving to 100 would be a hindrance for sure…

I am currently at 63Mbps dl / 75 Mbps up. This speed seems to work fine watching movies remotely while streaming direct.

I will move to an apartment with 1Gbps shared. They say each household will get an average of 212Mbps both down and up. Hope this is true.

I received the $90 offer but will wait for the $75 lifetime. Hope it comes.

I dunno, maybe there’s something I’m not getting…

Why do folks continue to pay the monthly fee waiting to get the cheaper lifetime pass price? I’ve been a lifetime pass holder for probably 5 or more years…don’t remember when I got it. I had the monthly fee for about 3 days, figured out that I’d probably be using this for years and threw down for the lifetime at full price. Never looked back. Seems to me that the monthly fee would slowly eat away at whatever savings you are waiting for by looking for that deal month to month.

6 bucks a month for 3 years equals $216 dollars spent waiting for a plex pass deal. Actually cost more to wait than to throw down the full price at the beginning.
