"Hardcoded" metadata not scanned

I noticed Plex doesn’t seems to scan the files with “hardcoded” metadata. Not sure I’m using the good word but what I mean by hardcoded is it is impossible to edit metadata.

After a couple of scan, I realized some movies in my folders don’t appear in Plex library and the only thing they have in common is this particular issue.

Is there a way to set the scan so it can only use file name instead of metadata?

  1. Use Plex recommended naming, especially with TV shows.

  2. Server Settings → Agents. Move Local Media Assets to the bottom of the list everywhere it appears.

  3. Scan the library, wait for it to finish, then refresh the metadata for the library (see pic below).

If you changed the file name, you may need to Plex Dance the movie/show/etc.

Edit-Library-1

Most folks call it “embedded” metadata

If your library is using the new Plex movie agent, rather than Plex Movie (legacy), then in the advanced settings of the library uncheck “Prefer Local Metadata

Funny thing is that I have 1 file named “Friday the 13th part 2” (I know lame movie but I’m an old fan) that is scanned fine and another named “Friday the 13th part 3” that is not. In that case I sure can assume that naming is not the problem.

Already done

Already scanned the library a couple of time and this is my 3rd Plex server installation on 3 different OS and every time this file (and others are not detected.

From what I see I use that agent (don’t see legacy mentioned anywhere) but I can’t find this option neither than the other 2 in your screenshots

Then you are likely using a pre 1.20.x version of server

Look at the Get Info for the one that is there. it might have paths to both of those files. https://support.plex.tv/articles/naming-and-organizing-your-movie-media-files/#toc-2

For movie titles it is usually best to use roman numerals for part numbers. “Friday the 13th part II" “Friday the 13th part III"

It worked!! Never would’ve think about it, thanks a lot… Lot of renaming to do
