How does this new build fix the issue? is it a new driver update so our systems are supported or is the new driver just disabled in code now?
The new driver is disabled in code, and we also improved the way color conversion (NOT tone mapping) is handled for 10-bit HEVC when hardware transcoding
@chrisallen
Using your package on my DS918+ results when transcoding with h264 codec in a complete pixel, blurry picture. but works. Not so with h265. please fix
best regards
Ekomax
I am not sure I understand what is going on in your feedback. Can you please give some more info? Logs? screenshot?
@chrisallen
If i transcode h264 media the picture is very burry. like transcoding to the lowest possible bitrate.
when transcoding media (a movie) with h265 codec (hevc) this does not happen.
Does the issue go away after 30 seconds of transcoding? I think you might be hitting Pixelated playback when Transcoding for the first 60-90sec
@chrisallen
i will test later because im not home now. i havent tried that long. i will report when im home again
thx
Synology DS218+ with latest firmware
Plex Version 1.18.2.2058
Enabling hardware acceleration results in distorted video as soon as transcoding is used - sound works.
Since you’re also using an Intel Celeron J3355 CPU in your DS218+ you should try out the new Synology-Version chrisallen posted a few hours ago:
New Build - Apollo Lake processor
Did work for me with the same CPU.
DL:
Synology - PlexMediaServer-1.18.4.2082 x86_64
Greetings
@chrisallen
You are right, around 30-90 sec - picture gets normal. Whats that now?

Tried to install the deb file in the docker container but on restart the update process overwrites it again
I’ll wait for the release.
I have the same problem and created another post (before I learned about this post):
Hi,
the fix worked for me on DS418play (Intel Celeron J3355). Thanks!
But like @Ekomax mentioned … the video needs now about 20-30 seconds to render with good quality after starting… even with subtitles disabled!
best,
Mac
This fix solved this issue on my DS918+.
Now I can play videos with subtitles when needed.
Thanks!
Thanks - I will try 2082 and will come back with feedback.
Looks good so far. HW transcoding is an option again…
Not sure if this is related… In the past I had this until I removed the bandwidth constraints on my Roku settings. Now transcoding is nearly seamless.
Has a stable public build released with the fix yet or just the test builds? Either way, thanks for working on the issue!
PlexMediaServer-1.18.4.2082-0b92712ea-x86_64 works well for me.
Thank you
Just upgraded to PlexMediaServer-1.18.2.2058-e67a4e892-x86_64. But the video is still scrambeld on my samsung tv. But only on some videos. And if I “convert” my videos from mp4 to mp4… it all seems to work ok with no scrambling…
thanks for the fix! going to try it out. i thought my nvidia shield wasn’t working at first.
