Recently, I’ve just noticed that my DS218+ (Intel Celeron J3355 - Quick Sync Video approved) is no longer able to hardware transcode. I’ve tried everything I could find on the net (except for uninstalling and reinstalling) to diagnose and try to fix, but to no avail. Something is not right. Further, my friend with a DS918+ is having the exact same issues.
I’ve created a new test server on my NUC on the same network and works fine - hardware transcoding operational. I’ve also created a test server via Docker on my NAS with the same result - no hardware transcoding. Seems to be localised to the NAS.
Hello everyone,
I’d like to reopen the subject to get feedback on the ongoing investigations into the problem since the switch to DSM 7.2 for synology DS x18+ models.
Having same issues on DS218± Works ok via Container manager (7.2) with 6999 but not after that version. Ive tried everything I can think of. Notice that release notes for 1.32.4.7164 claims to have fixed HW transcode faults for older GPU,s but in fact it makes no difference.
Would appreciate some feedback or advice but am staying with 6999 until problem is fixed. Do we know if problem is with Plex or Synology ??
The release note is not incorrect. It is a bit too vague. That update
(Transcoder) Hardware transcoding could fail to be used on older Intel GPUs on Linux (#14338)
addresses Intel Core -3xxx → -5xxx CPUs where Intel has not done their part supporting those chips with their Inte Media Driver as they should.
Everyone Synology-related is waiting for ApolloLake fix. The ApolloLake fix will be in the next PMS release. I confirmed with the Engineer last night.
It might be equally vaguely worded about “NAS platforms” since it impacts everything with a J3xxx CPU (ApolloLake) and some of the GeminiLake (J4xxx) CPUs across multiple vendors.
I’m the version of Synology ’s suite. Is the downgrade just uninstall and install it?Can the original settings and data be retained?Still say everything needs to be repeated
